How effective has article and blog network submission been working for you?
My experience with article and blog networks is pretty limited.

I'm trying to determine if it's more worth it to just send a spun article to new web 2.0 properties and/or a handful of the better article directories.

    You can try linkwheel if you didn't yet. Spin your article and submit it to multiple web2 sites with a link to your site and make backlinks for these backlinks.
    And if only you want to do article marketing, it works for most websites and you can sue it. But i think its not needed that you submit one article to hundred article directories.

    From my approach, i strongly believe that article submission to article directory worth for a try, at least, i see a little success for my project.
