I feel puzzle a bit  about does it really edu and gov does really help us in term of ranking keyword and website?

I know that this sites have killer PR that is high but Do this link dofollow or nofollow?

Does this edu and gov sites allow to put url or and anchor text that content url as backlink to us sites? If did allow is this mean like build a profile like in the web 2.0?

How do you do to find edu and gov sites in google?

Does anyone have a list of reliable edu and gov sites does have this criteria?
can put url or anchor text that can be clickable. I think this is what google eye look at, I guest.

I not sure if member in WF willing to share their secret strategic link building using edu and gov link?

The secret is that edu and gov links are no more valuable than others,
if all things are equal about the page. No extra credit just because
a .edu is after the domain.

Concentrate on high PR, quality pages no matter what the domain
    extension is.

It's like asking yourself, which would be better, having a ton
of bricks fall on you or a ton of feathers?

ZACKLICK, to answer your question: for Google and some other search engines, one of the criterias to get better ranking for your webpage is backlinks and their quality. Google and others considers links from .edu, .gov, any authority sites as being authority links and are indexing better your webpage (it is all about link authority, diversity and volume).
Beware that authority is a little factor in getting good ranking, you have to be focus in good domain name related to your niche market, good keywords (main, secondary and related - I hope you know what I'm talking about...), the content value of your website, AND HOW YOU PROMOTE YOUR WEBSITE.

You are talking about ranking and about being indexed by Google - you are talking about 2 different subjects!!!
To get indexed, just submit your web to the search engines of your choice.
    Goodluck with your business.

    Here's what I think

A lot of people make out .Edu and .Gov links are more powerful for ranking etc but personally I don't think they get any extra strengh solely due to the fact that they are edu/gov.

However I do believe people link back to them more to use them as reference as these are Goverment sites and tend to be more trusted source of information and not just people's opinions.

I mean, if you wanted the facts on smoking which site would you refer to? Some guy's Blog or a Goverment site?

This is why I think they're more powerful.... just the simple fact that people link back to them as their information is more trusted than other sites.

So that said and done what I'd focus on is just getting quality high PR backlinks... Whether it's a .com, .edu, .gov or whatever domain

When is this wives tale going to die? A PR5 link is worth what a PR5 is worth, whether it is from an .edu or .gov or .com or .net etc (divided by the outbound links of course).

I always wondered about this as it never made sense to me, until I saw Matt Cutts say that no domain extension was worth any more than any other domain extension. From that day on I knew it was an old wives tale.

Basically .edu or .gov back-links never gives special treatment in search engine ranking, actually these are trust building sources for your website.

so you don't need tons of .gov or .edu backlinks but I want to suggest,
      build at lest 20-25.

      Hi Tim,

Actually the rumors about .edu and .gov were probably true...About 8 years ago...

The logic is fairly simple: Barrier to entry. Not everyone can get an edu, gov or mil domain name and the organizations behind these extensions are non-profit. However, there's been times that anyone with .99 cents could buy a .info.

However, over the years this strategy has been exploited to the point that these links probably have lost their extra value, and therefore Google has adjusted.

But it is interesting that the reason Google busted Overstock was because Overstock was encouraging students through incentives to post links to Overstock from their student sites, giving Overstock tons of .edu links. Someone at Overstock put a lot of importance on .edu links.

Many people are getting the benefit of .gov/.edu backlinks. So, why you will not get? They are working. Here is a search string for finding those pages. Hope it will help you....

Search in Google using these search strings.

    - "keyword phrase"+inurl:blog site:.edu
    - "keyword phrase"+inurl:blog site:.gov
    - site:.edu inurl:blog "keyword phrase"
    - site:.gov+wp-admin
    - site:.gov+blog
    - site:.gov+comment.php
    - site:.gov+"submit site"
    - site:.gov+"submit your site"
    - site:.gov+"add url"
    - site:.edu inurl:blog "keyword" "comment"
    - site:gov - "you must be logged in" -"comment closed"
    - site:edu - "you must be logged in" -"comment closed"

According to me edu and gov websites have more traffic and high PR.If we get Back Links from these sites then automatically it will give more benefit to us.Because Search engine will see only the traffic and PR of these websites not the domain name of them.
So we should get Back Links from these websites more and more.

Yes extension doesn't matter, but edu and gov sites are real authorities and high quality sites. No one said that extension matter today but these sites are really huge, because they not commercial and do everything for people. These sites where created for people benefit and not for commercial so having backlink from such site is benefit and I always take if I can. I saw movement in Google after created 50 profiles. Of course I never tested with same PR .com sites but if you can get edu backlink go with it.

How about link from .edu with nofollow attribute. Would it still count as a good link by google or just text? How would that affect the ranking if the .edu page is PR6-7?
