Hello people,

I wanted to ask the experts here what's behind the 'Tags' method? Every new post i make goes under a category, is this not enough?

Thank you!
Pete

I read somewhere her on the WF (a couple of months ago), that tags should be avoided in WP blogs because (the post said), each tag creates a duplicate post. Is this correct I wonder...

Whoever posted what you read, doesn't know what they are talking about.

I get all my categories + tags + blog-post pages indexed, & they show inside GWT (Google Webmaster Tools).

A unique canonical tag per page is all you need, for dealing with duplicate pages.

Trust me, WP-Tags (and categories) are a good thing as far as seo...

    Tags are great!

Some posts of mine on some sites are ranking for keywords just because a certain keyword is in the tags but nowhere else in the post.

For many keywords there are variations, and each of them can potentially attract traffic. As long as you don't overdo it (i usually have 5-6 tags maximum) tags are great for trying to "catch" additional traffic for related keywords.

Addition of tags to the blogs can be cool from some aspects. First of all you will tell the viewers of your post which terms are important on your portal that you have written one or more articles about. Secondly, the search engines will find your original posts and indexing and crawling them in a better way and since the main targeted words are usually chosen while adding tags, so gradually their ranks would get better.

Of course establishing backlinks from outside sites and other resources would still seem to be important but since on page elements are important and your tags would contain anchors important to you, so the pages followed by them would be hot too. Usually most top ranking WP blogs are found powered by tags and it is better to use basic texts with no decorations while making them.

Tags should not be confused with keywords - they're different and do different things. Tags (and categories) make up WordPress' filing system - more details here:

Tags are "kind of a big deal" in my book.

Adds many more ways for the searchies to index your pages and for your buyers to find you.

Make sure you put your tag cloud widget up on all posts too.
