Google UK Results questions

Hi all.

One of my more successful affiliate products is now being sold in the UK so I want to attempt to mirror my results there but I'm not exactly sure how Google returns results in the UK.

Do UK users automatically search through Google.co.uk?

Does Google UK favor results where the domain name ends with .co.uk?

If I'm in the UK and search for product name keyword, will google return productname.co.uk over productname.com?

    Hi Sean,

    I believe it is based on IP address. I'm from the UK and if I go to Google.com I get automatically directed. I'm sure it is the same for most.

    If you want to optimize specifically for the UK market then just go with a co.uk domain. I wouldn't say Google favors this extension but it gives them a clue at where they should put your site.

    I've tested .nets and .orgs that optimize specifically for the UK and it doesn't quite work as well.

    If your American you'll also want to make sure that your UK spelling is up to scratch. Not a massive deal in terms of SEO but you don't want your visitors thinking you've spelt words wrong or from another country.

    British people tend to trust British people more, no idea why...
