Can Anyone tell me if this is effective?

I don't really know what is effective in pushing up rankings and what's not. Perhaps nobody really knows other than Google. I'm thinking about doing what many people suggested, but want to hear what you think first:

1. Create a Web 2.0 site (like a lens on Squidoo) with links to my main site.
2. Build some backlinks to the Web 2.0 site.

Is this method effective in helping my main site rank high?

    Hey,

    You need to do both of them, you have to spread your links all over the net and not be limited to particular kind of backlinks..

    Building backlinks is a little tricky job, though it doesn't need a lot of brain once you know what SEO is but till then I believe its a little tricky, I think my fellow warriors will agree to it.

    There should be a certain variety in the kind of backlinks you create to your website to get it ranked quickly.

    You can go for press releases, article submissions, blog commenting, profile links as off page SEO and then there is on page SEO to be taken care of too.

    I will suggest you to go for variety of links and watch the improvement in SERP's and then keep making them or get them done regularly.

    Do not make thousands of backlinks at once, you may end up getting sandboxed.
