I let a domain expire that has a rater large blog on it. SInce 4 days ago it expired and I only got it renewed.

I have noticed that a lot of the rankings are gone.

Will they swiftly return when Google knows I'm back?

I've done that more times than I can count. Only time It really affected me was when I didn't notice for about 45 days and got kicked out of DMZ.Other than that, never lost any ranking that wasn't the normal 1 or 2 position fluctuation that always comes back.

Um any more on this, as I still haven't seen an improvement on my old rankings that were there before I let the domain expire.

Yes i just wrote about this for a fellow warrior

If the domain has not dropped yet it will usually KEEP its PR.
Its also good practice if you recreate the former site and keep the old structure using archive.org's wayback backmachine...at least for some time.

Okey George, I shall hold out from changing the site for now and see what happens. If I remember I'll come back and write some details on what happened.

    Hi Intrepreneur,

did you add all the content back on?

Do you have Google webmaster tools?

Are all your pages still indexed (site:www.domainname) in Google?

Have you noticed your backlink count and Page Rank drop in Google?

    They is a difference here.

Is it just your domain that expired or you deleted your site?

If it's just you domain that expired then you have no problem, your rankings dropped because of the last Google bot visit to your site during the time your time expired so it's not permanent, once they crawl it again, they will reindex your posts but you might have a slight change in position.

I just did this for a sniper site a let drop and regretted a year later. The domain expired but name cheap held on to the domain for some reason 12 months after I had let it go... contacted them and they said I can have it back for $10... paid and the site ranked on page #4 within a few days!
