It can be extremely easy to rank.

Do you ever see YouTube videos ranking near the top of Google?

A lot of these aren't even backlinked too. - Google wants relevancy and if there are videos showing in YouTube for your keyword Google will add them to the SERPs - usually near the top of page one!

It takes time, videos get ranked according to popularity. That being number of views and ratings your videos get. Google normally ranks the top 2 or 3 videos in its results that display in youtube search since Google now owns Youtube. So ideally you would want to promote your video for it to get on top of Google.

Two things to keep in mind...

      1) Not all keywords/phrases are targeted using video. That means there is a shipload of long tail keyphrases out there that have no videos associated with them. If you create a video around that keyphrase, use the keyphrase as the title to your video, load it up on YouTube and write a good description including the keyphrase you are targeting you'll rank right at the top when someone does a 'video' search for the keyphrase.

      2) Video searching is growing dramatically. YT is becoming/has been a huge search engine as well as a video distribution site. Depending on the long tail, your video can even show up on the first page of the regular serps in Google for that term.

How do I know this? I've tested it.

I would make sure you have your keywords in the title, description and even as the video file name of which you upload. From there you can see where it lands but if there is any competition you should build a couple of quality backlinks

The other choice of course is to rank videos you have on your own site. The advantage is you don't have to go through creating all those Youtube channels, etc; The down side is you need to be careful getting your video sitemap correct, submitting it, getting links, and frankly trying to outrank and Youtube videos. Google seems to give them an automatic higher preference.

It all depends on the competition. If your video has title name RHEJFDFUSIODFUO SDUFOISDUFOSDUFOISUDFOI then you will show up #1 on Google for that phrase. Do your keyword research. Some people backlink their videos to rank higher on Google.

The answer can be positive because multimedia enhancements and solutions have got so popular online among millions of people accessing video sharing networks and looking for audio visual methods and tutorials about certain issues. Sometimes a single uploaded video file may work much better than writing tens of informative and very valuable text articles about a certain issue, like trying to explain how things are done.

YouTube has helped a lot of websites getting traffic from sources which are related to educational materials. For example, if you prepare a video file explaining how a certain technique is used in Photoshop area, a lot of people will find and view it, possibly even adding links to your website. Compare this situation with another case in which you only use texts to discuss the same technique but using words only.

We've had a TON of video seo experience in the local SEO space and found that video tends to rank early and easily, but settles back down after a fairly short period of time.

If you're going after niches that include someone searching for some type of video, those tend to stick on the SERP but there's more competition, obviously.
