Question about domains....

I am not sure if this is the right spot to put this question, but I am going to ask anyway to see if anyone can help me...

I bought a few websites off of flippa a month or two ago and have slowly been messing around with optimizing them and I have been receiving some adsense income from it.
It was a bundle buy.
When I bought the website the person said they would host the sites for 1 year.
Well I was on the cpanel and i noticed for the domain it says this:
domain1.domain2.com
But when I am on the actual website it says: domain1.com

What does this mean? Why is it set up like that? When I want to move my site to my host does it have to stay like that? Will it hurt me in anyway for SEO?

Thanks!!!

Brenda

It sounds like they have your domain as a subdomain to the main site on the hosting account.

Hostgator uses that method. If I register one domain, then I am allowed to have "add on sites". The sites appear in control panel as domain1.domain2.com but like you said the URL shows in the browser correctly.

As far as whether or not it affects SEO, some say yes, some say no. I have some hosting accounts set up like that, and have never had any SEO problems.

Thanks for helping clear it up for me. When I move the domain, to a new host, do you think it will be difficult, to split the domains up? So I only move domain1.com to new host?

      Thanks again!

Don't worry. It's not going to be an issue. You can easily move the content of just domain1.com.
Regarding SEO, as long as you are building links to domain1.com instead of domain1.domain2.com, you are completely safe.
