Title says it all really. I'm just wondering that's all, I have paid hosting but when I make sites for others I offer them free hosting as an option. I just wondered if this has any affect from an SEO point of view.

It will affect your ranking if your hosting is for example in the United States and you were trying to rank your site in the UK,Google checks where the site is actually being hosted.

I didn't realise that, I'll have to remember it, cheers.

I've used this free plan a couple of times and I really like it:
Free Web Hosting with PHP, MySQL and cPanel, No Ads

I've never had any issues with them but no one ever mentions them so I wondered if it being free or otherwise affected anything. Or maybe everyone is just suggesting sites with a good affiliate scheme, cause I don't think theirs is that great.

Also, web host could indirectly affect rankings negatively if the performance is poor.

For example, if there is downtime, since google takes this into consideration in a site's ranking. Loading speed could also be affected by the web host and this is also taken into consideration by google.

Yes hosting can negatively effect your site as most of the free hosting sites contains a lot of crap and your site is also staying there, so Google may relate these factors.

If you have a shared hosting account, you never have control of what other sites are - whether they are considered to be "crap" by someone or not, etc.

Google doesn't judge your site based on what other domains/Ips are on the same C-Block (server).

They can't do that - it would create havoc.
