Just wondering if anyone knows of any tools for researching possible niches.

Just to clarify, what I'm looking for is any kind of tools or reporting engine that list niches or markets by popularity or monthly searches. In other words something to help identify possible markets.

    Google keyword tool (external keyword tool?)--this is usually everyone's first stop shop. Has monthly searches I believe.
    Google Trends
    Google Insight
    Ebay Pulse
    Best Selling Items on Amazon
    Wordtracker tool
    Alexa Ranking
    Technorati

    All of these assume that I already know what all the possible markets are. What about the markets I've never thought of. I mean there could be a market for rubber penguins or brick bird houses. I mean who knows. That's what I was hoping to find. Something that would list markets or products or areas of interest by popularity. Something that would suggest to me all the things I haven't thought of or even dreamed of. The things that have never occurred to me.

      The thing with niches is that they have to be profitable, otherwise they stand no use.

      That's why to find a good niche, you have to find a good KEYWORD.

      The above listed software and any for that matter NEED to work with a keyword.

      New profitable niches are priceless, and I doubt that there would be a service that hands them on a silver platter.

    I like to go to SpyFu - Keywords with Highest Cost Per Click to find niches but this isnt exactly what you are looking for.

    I have also found great niches by using SpyOnWeb.com Research Tool — You Can Disclose Websites With The Same Google Adsense Code, Google Analytics Code, Ip Address etc. and reverse engineering competitors sites.

    Yahoo Answers could provide you with some questions about a niche that has not been discovered yet.

    I wish I had some better answers for you, but if you do come across a site that list products and markets like this, I would love to know about it.

    A lot of times the best niches come when you are searching for something else. I just think of big markets (family, fitness, love, money) and start researching keywords..that's when I find something I would have never thought of. I think the best tool is your brain.
