Hey guys, I am new to SEO and I am learning more and more.

I know that you want to target low competition keywords in order to rank on google, but my question is, what is a good global monthly search target for that keyword?

Example: I found a keyword that has very low competition, and when I type the keyword in quotions on google, 15,000 search results come up. Which I believe is pretty good(low competition). I know there are a few other things too look at in order to know if it is a good keyword to pick, but I basically want to know how many global monthly searches that keyword should be getting.

The keyword I mentioned above (15k search results) shows that it is getting 1,000 global monthly searches.

I am going to be doing article marketing driving traffic to a blog.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

That's a very good keyword, make yourself a blog with the keyword in it and buy a domain name with the keyword in it. And make backlinks with article marketing, video marketing, ...

    regards,

Okay thank you very much. That was good to hear. It has taken me awhile to begin to understand keyword research.

So a keyword with 22,000 global monthly searches and 7,050 search results under google is also a good keyword to chose?

When I am typing my keyword into the google search bar I am supposed to be putting quotations around the long tail keyword, correct?

If so, these are the results I am getting by doing that.

Those seem like good keywords but manually check to see what sites are ranking 1-5 in google.
If they are sites like wiki or real big authority sites they may be harder to beat.

"quotes around keyword" thats how you should look up the competition.
You can also use other methods like allintitle:quotes around keyword
That will show how many pages have that keyword in the title of the page.

Do not use search results to check competition. It has very little to do with SEO competition. Also go use the Google keyword tool to check the amount of searches.

So basically, if I search the keyword without quotations I am looking to see who my competitors are, like if they are authority websites or free sites like youtube, article sites etc.

And when I search the keyword with quotations I am mainly looking at the search results, correct?

Because when I search the keyword without quotations the search results are much higher (19,000,000) where as with quotations areound the keyword, the results are 15k.

Should I even worry about the # of search results when I search the keyword without quotations?

I have been using the google tool to find out the monthly global searches and the competition level, but I have also been reading a lot and watching tutorials on keyword research and some say if you are article writing you want to base your "keywords" off of the search results in google along with the global monthly search and competition.

When you search the keyword in quotes it is showing all of the pages that have that exact keyword in them. If you search the keyword without quotes its bringing back pages that can have that keyword in any order like (keyword around quotes) instead of (quotes around keyword).

Dont worry about how many results are listed when you do not have the keyword in quotes. Worry about the top 3 to 5 sites.

Dont think that just because there is low competition you will be able to beat them. You will need to analyze the top ranking sites for your keyword and judge if you want to put in the amount of work that it will take to beat them.

You are going to need to know how many backlinks are pointing to the top sites, how is there on page seo etc...

Thanks very much, that's the answer I was looking for.

I think that I found a good longtail keyword, when I search the longtail keyword without quotations I am seeing several free sites on the first page, such as yahoo answers, youtube, ehow, and a forum. I am assuming that this is a good thing, also because I am going to be writing 2-3 articles each day for about 25 days, and they are all going to be backlinks to a blog. I am going to buy a domain name that has my longtail keyword in it, and it will be forwarded to my blog. My blog is also going to have my selected longtail keyword in it as the Title.

The longtail keyword I am speaking of also has 1k global monthly searches and 20k search results.

Should I chose several long tail keywords?? Since I am writing so many articles, should I use different long tail keywords for some?

Yes, to judge the competition you have to look at the first page of Google. Do they have the keyword phrase in the title, url, description? How many backlinks do they have? What's the page rank. This helps to know whether or not you can beat them or how much effort you'll have to put into getting backlinks to your site.

A Keyword search looks for words anywhere in the record. Keyword searches are a good substitute for a subject search when you do not know the standard subject heading. Keyword may also be used as a substitute for a title or author search when you have incomplete title or author information. You may also use the Guided Keyword search option to combine search elements, group terms, or select indexes or fields to be searched.

The keyword you have found is pretty good. Don`t stress too much about the number of searches that the keyword receives. Just ensue that is a buyer keyword. Most of the times I made more money for keywords that have a low number of searches (ofter less than 1k) than i made for keywords that have thousands.

Youhave found a good keyword. Make sure that the top 5 website that rank in SERP have PR of less than 4 (or 3 if u want less competiton). And also those top 5 sites should not have the keyword in the domain.
    Thats it!
With proper backlink building, you'll rank well in within 3 months
