Local Searches?

Hey Everyone!
Just a quick question about some local keyword research.
I am getting leads for Granite companies in my home town. If I type in "granite toronto" there is obviously a lot more Global searches than Local searches.
Yet, wouldn't there be very little amount of searches happening around the world for granite in my city? So would it be accurate to show clients the Global number rather than the smaller Local number? I have a feeling the Global in this sense is more accurate of how many people are searching for Granite in Ottawa a month since it is a local keyword to begin with.
