I was wondering how GROUPON manages to have so much exposure in Adwords Content network. I mean, they appear in almost every website I visit. Even the smallest site in other languages! They off course always promoting local businesses in my city. How do they manage to appear in every single site I visit even though it has nothing to do with the service they promote??????

Thousandths of keywords?

I don´t think it´s by adding placements because they appear even on small sites in other languages that they could never figure out I was going to visit.

Thanks,

Ricky

    1. They likely have a big Adwords budget.

    2. They'll be using Adwords re-marketing, which shows their ads to people over and over again throughout the content network. So you likely clicked on one of their ads at some point, identifying yourself as someone who's interested in what they have to offer, and now you're essentially being "followed" by them on every website that uses Google adsense. So they likely aren't advertising to everyone on all these websites... just people that have clicked on their ad before like yourself.

I see the same as OP (Groupon on a lot of sites, in Adwords/Adsense), & I never click anyones Adsense Ads.

Since Groupon turned down Google for a $6 billion buyout, I'm sure Groupon has a large enough advertising budget to cover thousands of keywords on Adwords.

Myself, I would have sold Groupon in a heartbeat...

Number one way I would do it if I was managing Groupon's campaign is, as Matt said, use a remarketing campaign. You don't need to click their ads, simply have visited their site. If you've visited Groupon, they got you. I get the same thing for being in Adwords all the time and a few other sites, including a client of mine for which I keep seeing his banner ad that I created.

Another thing I'd do with Groupon is a placement campaign promoting specific offers. That would make their advertising spend go further.

Groupon has a lot of capital. Budget is likely not much of an issue. They probably have a marketing department to handle Adwords and other PPC which to me, even if five people, is impressive.
