How Long Before Backlinks Appear?

Hey guys,

I know that it varies but what would you say is the average time it takes for backlinks to start appearing? On paper I have backlinks from a slew of social bookmark sites, article directories and web 2.0 sites yet none of them appear on the Yahoo directory. I've amassed approximately 80 backlinks I'd say in last 2 weeks and none of them show up.

Has anyone ever run into this? What have you done to alleviate it?

    As you mentioned this can vary quite significantly. For a backlink to appear, Google has to crawl the page and then pick-up the backlink to your site. This will happen quicker if you have backlinks from higher PR pages as they will tend to get crawled quicker. Of course some of your links will never get found.

    Time wise, I've had high PR links gets picked up within a week or two, and lower PR links take up to 2-3 months sometimes. My advice is just keep building links continuously at a steady rate.

    Backlinks on pages with higher PR and higher traffic will get indexed more quickly. When you get a backlink on a page, you can check the most recent cache date of that page by typing "cache:URL" into Google (replacing URL with the url of the site). At the top it will tell you the last time the page was visited by the Google crawler, which will give you an idea of how frequently the site gets visited.

    Most times low quality backlinks will need a 2nd 1/2 way decent backlink to get them indexed by Google.

    Yahoo Explorer won't show all your backlinks, they should show some but not all, If they are indexed.

    An easy way to check on your backlinks & to see If they have already been indexed is to check the Google cache for the backlink page. If your link is inside the Google cache, your link is all good.

    It could be a few things, maybe google hasn't or never even WILL crawl your backlinks. This is why its a good idea to PING your backlinks, if your links never get crawled, what the point of having them, right?

    Another thing is on page quality, if your page is crap, google will penalize that as well. I suggest you back link your back links to give them more juice to flow down to your target site. And make sure you ping them. Im sure you can find plenty of programs that do this each with its pros and cons

    Lastly, who cares about "INDEXED" backlinks, your site can rank with 0 index back links. The real question is....are you moving up in SERPS?

    I use yahoo site explorer and I usually start to see backlinks from social bookmarking and directories after a few days. Make sure you are checking the right URL IANA — Example domains is not the same as example.com

    If you pay for 100 social bookmarks only about 10 will stick, same with directories
