Promoting your Youtube Channel with your Blog.

Another member asked about how to promote his Youtube channel. Since I've been lurking for a year and can't reply yet, I have to create a new post instead. Hopefully my 'reply' will prove insightful to some other IMs.

So, basically, you want to get the word out about your youtube channel. Just like promoting a blog, you need to get links to your channel that will bring traffic and boost it's G juice. A few ideas might include:

Tweeting about your channel (follow people in related niches) - you may want to create a twitter account dedicated to your channel.

Submitting your video to other video sharing sites

Link to your channel in the bio section of articles (kind of a lot of work)

If you have a blog, you can multiply your efforts using the following technique.

Install YARPP, a free WP plugin. You can google it to find it.
On your blog...
- create a category named "Your YouTube Channel Name"
- create a post for each video, including embedded video, link to your channel, and a brief SEO friendly description.
- Add each to your new 'channel' category.
- Configure YARPP to 'Consider' only Categories for finding related posts.
- Make sure you enable 'Display Related Posts in Feeds'
- Under 'RSS display code example' section, edit the template (this is easy) adding a link directly to your channel.
- Now copy each of your blog post URLs to notepad and append /feed/rss to the URLs. ex. hxxp://mysite.com/myvideo1/feed/rss

This is 'cheap' way to turn any Post into it's own RSS feed.
Submit all of these to your favorite Feed Aggs.

Thanks to YARPP, each RSS feed will contain links to numerous video related blog posts AND a link directly to your channel.

- Tweet about your blog posts.

- Finally, you can now bookmark the posts at your favorite bookmarking sites. Remember that each of the posts (thanks to YARPP) has links to most if not all of the other posts, so you can mix and match your bookmarking. It won't matter since they are all interlinked. When available, you can also submit the bookmarking site's RSS Feeds to the RSS Aggs.

- Ping if you like to speed up indexing.

PS. If you are unfamiliar with YARPP, you could just manually link to your other video posts from within each post, it's just a lot more work.

Hope that was clear enough as I have no Idea what your WP experience level is.

cheers
