I'm starting my new niche site today. I did keyword research and found a clickbank product to promote. I was about to reg my domain, but it's long. Most niche site traffic comes from google/backlinks anyways, so should I worry? Its this long: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.com. Should I do it? D;

I don't think this will be a problem. If you have done your research and there is a market, eg. people searching for your keywords, then it makes no difference. As long as this what people are looking for. Also, the domain having the keywords is good, but not necessary.

Yes that is fine. Long-tail keywords have much more better conversions anyway

I have a bunch of them with long names. But for the extra $7.89 a year for the good ones I will buy a short 4 or 5 letter domain name and redirect it to the long name.

I know you can use those shortening services, but I think they look hokie, impa.

The advantage of the short name is that you can use it when you're giving it out to a friend or a stranger and it's easier to write down, (and/or remember sometimes).

The long name gives you keyphrase recognition, and the short one (like r3dg.com, as an example) makes life easy.

    Shouldn't matter at all...

As a matter of fact, consider it a bonus that you could find an exact keyword .com domain for your site.

If you're not worried about branding, and just want to get traffic to your site - you're definitely headed in the right direction.

    Best of luck to ya!

It does not matter at all. If the keyword has a good search volume and it is available, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't go ahead. ACTION!

I want to recommend that you sign up for more prominent places than ClickBank, ClickBank is where most beginners start, but eventually you will want to get away from them. Try signing up for CommissionJunction.com, ShareASale.com, LinkShare.com, and also check out some 'CPA networks' which are easier to convert than the professional sites I listed.

I don't think it will affect your rankings if your names are to long or to short, that really has nothing to do with it.

I use cj.com as well, but I figured it would be supplementary to the product I chose on clickbank.

I agree with pretty much all the other comments, if the longtail keyword you've chosen is getting traffic, go for it!

But it may be worth taking into consideration the intent behind the particular keyword/search phrase you choose.

search queries can be grouped into 3 categories, navigational, informational and transactional. - so the search query can in a way show how the searcher will behave on your site, what their next steps may be.

Although how you are planning to monetize your site will influence which type of search query would be best suited!

A long tail keyword isn't always a keyword with loads of characters or words by the way.

It will make no difference if you use long keywords or short.

If people are searching for that phrase in google, then having the domain will be no harm at all. In fact long keyword/keyphrases are often easier to rank for and more targeted to give better conversions, so go get the domain and start building now
