The sandbox is when your website goes from having good rankings to being almost impossible to find.

I personally don't believe in the sandbox. I've had rankings disappear before, but they usually bounce back within time.

In my opinion "Sandbox" does exist and the new domains goes into this sandbox if you try to create too many backlinks for it in a short period of time. There is no stipulated period for a site to remain in the sandbox.

When you are doing some spamming activities to promote your site that time Google will put your site in Sandbox.

Sandbox is related to Google penalty. When Google observe websites doing any spamming activities, it sends them in sandbox.

The Google Sandbox effect is an alleged restriction placed on new websites. The result is that a new site does not receive good rankings for its most important keywords and keyword phrases for few months. Even with good content, many inbound links, a new website may still be adversely affected by the Sandbox effect. The Google Sandbox acts as a probation for new sites, probably to discourage Spam sites from rising quickly, getting banned, and repeating the process. Thus the Google Sandbox is very similar to a new website being placed on probation whose rank is kept lower than expected in searches, prior to being given full value for its inbound links and content.

When Google updated it’s algorithm to make ranking in Google much harder some new sites that just started to rank well in the old algorithm got caught in the middle of this update, as you’ll discover it’s not the age of the site per se that’s the problem, it other factors (age and quality of links/PR) that keep a site in the sandbox.

Sandbox theory and Sandbox effect both are the same term it's term is used by SEO person. Send box is a dampening filter that is applied to new websites. It usually lasts for between two and six months from the site's launch date. It's not unusual for a new website to enter the SERPfor a couple of weeks and then drop out of the search engine rankings completely.

If you are asking a question on sandbox then my guess is that you simply have no clue about Google SEO. If I go into sandbox details now, WF might just restrict me for writing a really, really long post, trust me... it can be that long.

So, I'm just going to cut it really very short for you.

Your site get's sandboxed when it hits Google spam filter.

So, how does your site hit Google spam filter?

They are many reasons and ways to hit the Google spam file but I will just give you a few (remember that restriction things... ha ha, just kidding )

    1. Linking your website to bad neighborhoods either through link exchange or whatever means. bad neighborhoods are stuffs like adult sites, malware sites, hacked sites and more and this is the reason why I literally don't participate in link exchanges
    2. Spamming and stuffing image alt and title tags all over your site
    3. Running a blog farm on your sever
    4. Keyword stuffing and spamming just to get Google's favor
    5. using forced exit splash on your site
    6. Using FAKE traffic and alexa hits software on your site
    7. using auto adsense clicker on your site.
    8. using hidden referrals and cloaked links on your site.
Note that sending in tons of link to your website won't sandbox it even though it's just cheap PR0 links but it will make your site dance for a while but after which it comes back stronger and better.

    Hope this answered your questions?

if you still need any other help, do let me know

    Precious

Do you even have a clue on SEO?

Sandbox and Google ban doesn't come as a result of websites trying to build links quickly. The reason is because they know you don't have all the control on building links to your site.

They know your site can go very viral and become so popular that almost everybody talks about it which will lead to people posting articles linking to your site and all of them result to backlinks.

So, they don't ban your sites for building links very quickly, rather they ban you when you use black hat SEO methods which I already listed some in the last post

Am not really sure if sandbox still exists or not. There was a discussion long ago in google forums about this. And it says that google has the lifted the sandbox restriction. Instead it places a series of penalties, which were listed there.

The OP wasn't saying his site was sandboxed, he was asking what is sandbox.

They are 2 different things mate

Google sandbox is a restriction created or placed on new websites or relatively new websites on the internet, you can compare or refer it to as a Probation period of a new employee to a company.

Yeah, Sandbox is simply a maturing period in which your site must age and be monitored by Google for relevance before they allow you to rank high in the SERP against established sites for highly sought after keywords. It can last anywhere from 30 days to over a year. Average is 6-9 months. While in the sandbox you should work on getting backlinks to establish your site in Google's eyes.

IF you website is penalized by google, in new terms you can say that it is sand boxed by google, debate is still on whether old websites are also sandboxed by google or not but new ones are getting sandboxed...

It's a myth. A myth that your website disappears upon establishing too many backlinks to it especially if it's a new one, and it suddenly looses ranking and disappears for a while before bouncing back.
I don't believe in sandbox though.

Sandbox can be a good thing and a bad thing. Let me tell you what the differences are:

Good thing - You have over SEO'd your site and its hit sandbox. Dont worry because this is also known as the Google Dance and in most circumstances your site will come out of the Sandbox 10x more powerful and you will get higher rankings ! , But at the start it will dance around going higher and lower in the ranks everyday until it stops.

Bad thing - You have built low quality , Spam links and Google has penalized your site with a permanent sandbox and a de-indexation of your site. This is what you dont want.

Just built alot of High quality and Authority links and you will be fine

Sandbox is particularly a filter used for spammer. When the website is penalized due to many reasons then,Google saves these websites in its box called sandbox.

  • The Google Sandbox is considered a ‘probationary period’ given to a new website. Even though your website may have a high Pagerank, lots of backlinks, and quality content it will not rank high in the SERPs. This filter is said to be placed on ‘new websites’.

The google sandbox usually occur for new website that are ranking for competitive keywords. I have some experience with it but my site gets back to the google ranking around 3 to 4 months later.

It seems like google is trying to see if we are really serious about our business. If you are in a sandbox and decided to give up writing any content for your website or creating any links to it. It means that you are not serious and this is a way to try you out.

If you continue to write good content for your site, you can be sure that your site will be out of the sandbox eventually.

I personally don't think if there is any sandbox exists.
Because, I have worked on several new and old websites and any time haven't experienced that Google has kept my site on hold for a long time just because its new or something like that.
So this is all crap...don't believe these things and just go on doing the right things.
