My Alexa Rank is Tanking...Help!

Back in February, my Alexa worldwide rank was at an all-time low of 376,000. It slowly climbed to around 425,000 and bounced around, but stayed around there. For the last month, it has been steadilly declining and is now at 475,155. The weird thing is that my daily visitors have been increasing steadilly, while my rank is getting worse. Could Alexa be "penalizing" my website for something???

Why are you worried about your Alexa ranking? That is like worrying about PR.

If you traffic is still going up, Roll with it...

Well, I've thought all along that since Google has never considered raising my pagerank above ZERO, that at least I had a decent Alexa ranking to compensate. Now that it is going down (or up, as the case may be), I am worried that my site is losing what little "clout" it had. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I would like to see some keywords in the top 100 search results at least.
If anyone could look at my site and offer any suggestions, I would be highly thankful. Just add (dot com) to my username.
      Thanks,
      bigfishingshop

Don't worry about Alexa ranking... It means absolutely NOTHING! That's my opinion of course. My PR0 sites outrank many higher PR/aged/authority sites for some pretty competitive terms...

Google has been keeping PageRank and the true updates private... Who knows... Maybe you're actually a TWO in Google's eyes!!?!

to OP... if you put the code on your site, you will get a more accurate account of your alexa rank, cos not everyone is using shareware to reveal the results to alexa, so if you put the alexa code on your site, it registers each visit

What is this sudden WF love with alexa ranking?

Instead of worrying about alexa, worry about stuff that
        actually matters.

If you think a decent alexa makes up for a bad google, man
are you barking up the wrong tree.

        Paul
What I meant by "compensate" is that since Google thinks my site sucks, my Alexa rank revealed that I was at least still getting fairly decent amounts of traffic. I am not "barking up the wrong tree", the tree that I am barking up is in fact ONE of the right trees. So now, Google still thinks my site sucks, and my Alexa rank reveals that my traffic is decreasing. Several responders have said not to worry about Alexa rank, that it means nothing. Well, to me it means that if your rank is dropping, so is your traffic, and you need to do something about it. For me, this is in fact the case, I have been tracking my stats a little closer because of my concern, and can see now that my daily visitors have decreased by around 40%.
My "uh-oh" alarm is going off, and I am concerned.
By the way, I DO have the Alexa code properly inserted, so the tracking should be fairly accurate.
Update: Alexa rank is now approaching 500,000, hasn't been that high in a long time. (gulp)
The funny thing is, Google is sending me MORE search traffic than ever before (12,000 impressions, 200 clicks in the last month)

Update to this thread: My Alexa rank has gone from 375,000 to 1.16 MILLION! What's funny is that my traffic has increased by 300% since I was at the 375,000 rank. I have come to the conclusion that Alexa is all screwed up and is not for real. The numbers just don't accurately reflect a website's true traffic.
I am going to ignore them from now on...maybe take their code out and watch my ranking get better! LOL

Glad to hear it. Metrics and Rankings are cool to look at but traffic, targeted traffic is what you want. If you are getting that, then focus on conversions.

I took a look at your site. You don't have many links coming in. That is a major problem.

I would recommend writing some high quality, non-self-serving articles about fishing and submitting them to EzineArticles and ArticleBase.

This will be a slow process, but you have to set your self up as a resource.

Additionally, start submitting links to link directories.

And, with respect to the information you have on you site, it has to be of the highest quality. You have to ask yourself: When I drive traffic to my site, will they "want" to come back?

Don't worry about your alexa ranking. It is not 100% accurate, as long as you see your traffic is getting higher, there is nothing to worry about.

Did you check the source of the sites in my sig Askloz?! Lol! Yeah I've got these meta tags in the main page <head> :

          <meta name="google-site-verification"...
          <meta name="y_key"...
          <meta name="msvalidate.01"...
          <meta name="alexaVerifyID"...

Does it help?! Probably not... But it's a good habit to do so in my opinion because you can never have enough tracking!

I'll stick to my previous post:

By studying threads opened at most discussion forums these days, you will find Alexa ranks to be very hot only among webmasters who are either going to buy or sell advertising spots online. Many times your website may experience a ranking boost and yet mysteriously its Alexa rank might tank due to strange reasons. Alexa does not know exactly how many people visit your website on a daily basis.

Although the way it gives websites some traffic ranks has got improved in the recent years, but still you can find so many top ranking websites on Google with unsatisfactory Alexa data and their admins are just smiling at those digits and ranks.

Yes they all right, the Alex and PR means nothing although we have to say that the page with higher PR receives a little better treatment from the searching engine (linke the index time, reaction for update, etc).

The ranks goes up but the traffic and your guests are losing, or the ranks are a little bit lower but the traffic and your %exit result turns better and more of your clients likes your site. Which one you would like to do??

Never forget the essence for SEO - the perfect seo is for doing nothing but creating something really useful and interesting to your customers.

I also noticed a droped on my alexa rank, such as my websitegradder.com rank that was 95 and went down to 77

But diferent from you, I caused that, I mean, I had to make a little clean on the site =D

Erased a lot of diversified articles, now my focus is marketing, advertising, and SEO only, Alexa started getting better again, as well as my traffic and wbg rank.
