Big authority sites

I have this problem frequently so I just decided just to ask and see if anyone had an answer.

A lot of my niches are based on electronics and what-not. I found a couple of niches and the top ranking are usually amazon, geeks, wiki, dell, bestbuy and hp.com. If I were to attack ONE keyword could I possible outrank all these sites?

Vulk. Don't be too concerned about the domain the page is on. Look at each page on its own merits. A lot of the pages you are seeing are ranking based purely on the authority of the domain's internal links and age. They are often not promoted off-site.

What this means is that if you target the keyword with Google off-site promotion (backlinks) you can outweight the initial boost the big domain pages got.

If you want to give it a try then use a Web 2.0 property such as HubPages to test it out. Create you keyword optimised hub and build some links to see if you can get it to #1. When you find out how easy it was you can then take that experience and create your own sites for similarly tough/weak keywords..
