Hi - REALLY appreciate some help here.

I need to redirect content from an existing (non-blog) site over to a new WPblog site - and want to maintain the existing traffic flow.

Q).
Can I set the new blog up as a subdomain off the existing site ... & will I still maintain the existing traffic/PR to the new blog?
Or am I better off setting up the new blog as a separate URL/site?

Q).
If setting up the blog as a separate site - is 301 redirect best done using the WP Simple301 redirect ... or via the cPanel redirect function in Hostgator, where the new WPblog will be hosted?

Q). Once the existing page content is redirected to the new blog LP & the blog site is up and live . . . will I see any negative traffic or page ranking impact, if I slightly modify the content, metatitle & metadescription to better reflect the new blog site/LP's focus?

Thanks so much for the help and advice, as I really want to get this right, and am not a techie.

T.

You can do a permanent 301 redirect to your new site to keep your traffic, however I have found from past experience that this reduces the quality of your visits.

The alternative option, which loses quite some traffic but gets visitors that are really interested aka quality/hot leads, is to simply put a link on your old page like "I have moved, click HERE to go to the new improved page"

That is more honest as a lot of people who just get redirected think something is fishy and are unlikely to buy whatever you're selling. If they click on your link at their own will, that is a very good thing indeed.
