How many Backlink Pyramids are too many?

Building backlinks is important, and obviously higher PR backlinks and .edu and .gov backlinks are more helpful but is there a number of link pyramids that you should cut off at? IE: Is having (5) 3000 link pyramid's too many? 10000 link pyramid? When will it stop mattering, or when will google think youre a blackhat seo'er?

    Build links slowly and surely, dont rush it.

    Build as many links as you damn well please. Google isn't going to find them all in 24 hours, so build, build, build--especially if your building crappy links--your going to need a ton of them.

    On the contrary you could focus your link building on extremely powerful anchor links placed within content on high PR (PR6+) pages and you wouldn't have to build nearly as many links to get the same effect (higher rankings).

    I have seen over 13,000 backlinks for a website ranking #1, so 10,000 is certainly not the maximum.
