Help With Affiliate/Adsense Website

Hi Warriors,

I would really love your help with some suggestions as I am not sure what I should be trying next.

I have been trying to be an internet marketer properly for the past few months and have built several sites based on George Brown's Google Sniper method by picking a low competition, high search keywords and building a site based around that word, putting a clickbank or similar affiliate offer on it and some adsense.

Well, I have been having success with the ranking part, but not with the money part.

Example: my site How To Increase Weight seems like a pretty good keyword. "how to increase weight" It's based around how to fix some kind of problem, it has a pretty good search rate (8100 per month exact search). I chose a clickbank product that seems popular and has lot's of resources (Jasons Ferrugia's "Muscle Gaining Secrets")

I have maintained a high spot in google results for a couple months now. I think it's still number one for that keyword. It is getting plenty of traffic.

So what gives? I haven't made a cent...well maybe a few cents from maybe one adsense click in every 300 and those clicks are paying peanuts...and not one affiliate sale whatsoever....nothing

I really need help because something is not right here..what should I be doing next?--I am number 1 for xxx sake (all my other sites are similar.)

Is it the product? too expensive? or is my site not converting because of bad sales content..? Are the adsense in the wrong place? What? Should I put a email sign up form? Bad links? I am stuck ,,not sure which angle to go at.

Also in my google analytics most of the traffic seems to be coming from India...maybe that has something to do with it?..but all my sites are having the same problem and their traffic isn't from India so I am still a bit lost...

Your wisdom and suggestions will be much appreciated..please?

Advice - very fitting topic you definetly nailed it with the targeted audience and respectively fitting product.. HOWEVER that price is way to high if you want to make a lot of sales off of this.. but I think you should focus just a little more on adsense first and leave this product until the fact that you have not made a single sale (if you havent in the next month or two) is absolutely killing you - which it wont be if your adsense is spot on

You should try finding a closely related keyword that pays the most estimated average CPC and find the code that suggests specifically to show ads related to the keyword that you decide on.. the code does exist.. ask around, and if i am not mistaken - Yukon knows this code, try pm'ing him and see if he can point you in the right direction

    ALSO
FIX YOUR ADSENSE BLOCKS TO ONLY SHOW TEXT ADS!!!!!
    LOL

you should consider some retro fitting and creating another blog that you can link to at the top that says click here if for the indian version(in that particular language so that they can read it)

Thanks for helping Samuel. Why are text ads best? Should I make my top banner a text ad as well or just the in-post ads and side bar ads?

Also I don't understand what you mean by CPC code? Isn't that just the adsense ad code...how do I change that? I get that from adsense and cant tamper with it can I?

Top left corner and top right corner are good adsense placements. I would move the 4-link adsense block up to upper right corner where that Friend me ad is. Your horizontal link ads at very top left should be used between your paragraphs. The other adsense block you have in the upper left should be downsized to like 250x250. Make a seperate page for about me. (get rid of your picture and bio on the home page) You want people to look at your content and product links. Don't distract them. You also have a large ad block about halfway down the page. Use you horizontal adsense link units here instead. Your site is screaming too much if you know what I mean. Try these colors on upper left ad unit (250x250)

          border-FFFFFF
          title-0101df
          background-FFFFFF
          text-000000
          url-000000

Try these colors on your 120x90 4-link unit (moved to upper right corner)

          Border-FFFFFF
          links-0101df
          background-FFFFFF

    Couple of thoughts.

Why not build a list of people that build your site. That way you can provide tips via email and offer them more opportunities to visit your site and click your links. Promote your offer in the email as well.

Also, how relevant is the offer to the site's title. Is gaining weight and gaining muscle really the same thing? Maybe someone wants to pack on a few pounds but doesn't want to work out.

You could also try blending the Adsense colors in more with the site. Make those feel like part of the content and not stand out so much.

    Just some thoughts.

I could offer a book on eating more donuts or icecreams I spose, but what else is there to gain weight other than diet and building muscle?...when looking for appropriate products on clickbank and others - muscle-building is the only type i can find?

Thanks for the tip about giveaway and making a list...I know I should be doing that with all my sites really...just seems like a lot of work..but I guess it's just about getting started

I have changed it to how you say but the links are now bright blue...I thought it was better to be the same color as my other text as to blend in, but is it better like this? There is a big space at the top of the page too...is that what you envisioned? And shall I make the very top banner ad with those colors you gave me also?

Thanks for helping...sry if it is taking me a while..it is quite confusing

I think I have like you say now...but I am not using the maximum of 3 ads I am allowed ..is that optimium?

I made the other links blue as well

Do you think I should set up my adsense like the way you suggest with all my sites that are similar to this one?

Why is my adsense CPC so low? ..I made 2 cents from 3 clicks with nearly 300 pageviews for today. The CPC was 0.01..now does that SUCK or what?

Why is it so low? I dont get it..the keywords are all in the weight niche...this site is driving me nuts...the ad placements I have been doing with tdj might help a bit with the clicks but the CPC is ridiculous?

And I really dont understand what Samuel Alexander is saying about Ad code?

If you look up your keyword using the google keyword tool and have it set to show CPC, your keyword has a CPC of .60 cents. Very low. Normally you would get approx. 68% of that amount. That CPC is very low. That's why I am trying to help you get your visitors to focus on getting to the sales page and not soo much to click adsense. I will pm you again.

Just from a design point of view, I think your site looks a bit cluttered. It looks like it has great potential and could look really good but it maybe needs cleaned up a little. Sometimes when there is too much to look at readers will tend to click out of the site. I think one of the things that adds to that for me is the adsense link unit at the foot of each post.

I have read everyones help and made some changes especially with the help of tdj..thx...so have a look at it now...It has adsense toned right down and the page is less cluttered and better balanced...

            so we will see.

The only way that I can see to get a higher adsense CPC would be to target a diffrent keyword all together which would mean re-writing the whole site...so I have aimed it to the affiliate product like tdj suggests.

Thank you everyone who made a suggestion..

Okay I have sussed a section I want to target, but one bit of the code I am a bit confused about. I know to use

                <!-- google_ad_section_start --> and <!-- google_ad_section_end -->

but do I also need to put html at the beginning and end or can i use the html that is already there?

The html that is already there, just "blend" it with your current adblock codes

Pretty cool isnt it?!?! for example you could make the section target muscle gain, or muscle gain tips, or something like that, which revolves around your keyword ( so people still click to retain a CTR) and the avg. CPC of those keywords are probably SO MUCH higher.

Well, I've used it...but what I did was write another whole post and sectioned that.. about protein shakes and bodybuilding supplements which has a higher CPC as it said the section needed to be significant quantity.

I just hope this new post doesn't upset my ranking for the main keyword which is "how to increase weight" (I used this main keyword in the new post a bit too so hopefully it will still hold...)

THANKS FOR THE TIP THO>>>awesome to know

Yes it is pretty cool ay?

The trick is to use it TACTICALLY to your advantage.

In order to prevent any ranking changes, or unwanted changes, I would make your new addition about 20% of previous total word value. That way your post is still MAINLY about the how to increase weight keyword

Also, if protein shakes doesn't convert CTR wise, as well as you would have hoped, I would look into the two keywords I suggested, as it is VERY tightly related to your original topic anyways

Yeah have a look it is about 20% of my page as it is one post in 5 on the page. Plus the targeted area has my main keyword in it a few times as well....I will leave like that for now as my new keywords are around $5 and wait...wait about 2 weeks it said...gee that's a while....but I'm going to do that to my other sites whith low CPC too.

Have you had success with this? Can you show me an example?

Wow! It's totally working already! The ads are now about weight gain supplements and protein shakes....amazing and the CPC has shot up like crazy...and it's only been one day. Still only one click so far so the CTR is still poor..but..selective targeting... isn't that amazing?
