Why would they be banned for that?

They use the same design but all have different uses. They aren't 100% duplicates.

      Very much agree with you.

OP, should these "duplicate" PR8 websites should be banned too?

    Google.co.uk
    Google.fr
    Google.de
    Google.it
    etc

Pagerank is just a metric used to determine the strength of inbound links. Duplicate content has nothing to do with it. Additionally, sites don't get banned/deindexed solely for duplicate content .

content is 100% the same, just different header banners and background color

so there is no such thing like de-indexing site because of duplicate content?

That only happens for duplicate content on different pages of the same site. It's not a serious thing when it comes from different domains...

it seems google analyzes whois owner

if domains are hosted on the same hoster, than could it be problem?

google handles duplicate content well, it simply ranks one and unranks the others

        Hi derekad,

No, there is no such thing as a duplicate content penalty.

While thiose sites are very similar, they are not quite 100% the same. If you look closer you will see different software featured in some places.

Again no. why would you think that?

They don't unrank them they simply filter them from the SERP, post query, when there are other relevant pages. When there are no other pages with close to the same keyword relevancy then they don't filter.

p.s. Google doesn't ban website they de-index them, they only ban people, not websites.

The duplicate content isn't why they should be deindexed, it's the paid links down the sides that should get them slapped and their PR taken away. They even have an advertising page visible to everyone that says they sell links since it's good for your PR.

If you're feeling vindictive, report them to Google and you'll see that PR disappear soon enough.

so it is not good approach?
for instance if I have a few sites with already bidh wodpresss blog posts database
will it be good idea to install that wordpress blog database on my new sites?

or it wil be bad idea, becase some day somebody can report to Google and my sites will be de-indexed?

You can't be banned for using the same template with multiple sites,if that was the case there wouldn't be any sites left to ban because they would all be banned.

duplicated content doesn't hurt authority too much, but it's a big pain for fresh sites
I have a fresh site with 3 moths old, ranked no.8 for a keyword, once i added a duplicated content, it dropped to no.72 in google. bing and yahoo, didn't change so far.
