    Let's suppose your keyword is dog training

    an anchor text would look like this... blah blah blah dog training blah blah blah

    it's a keyword with a link to your website (usually a website that you want to optimize for the keyword you've put in anchor text)

    hope this is clear enogh lol

    Cheers

    Simply put, in not too technical terms your anchor text is what you write to hold a link that points somewhere...

    You can have anything as your achor link pretty much and the search engines recognise it, say for instance your anchor was "debt consolidation" and your link was "DebtConsidlidationBecauseYouAreaMoneyWastingIdiot .com" the search engines will finally find it and associate that term with your website.

    In time they would start to think anyone looking for "debt consolidation" was looking for "DebtConsidlidationBecauseYouAreaMoneyWastingIdiot .com" and boost it up the rankings...

    Of course it is much more involved than that but it is the general idea

    ~~~
    The link in my signature has anchor text of "Finding available domain names" to point to " http://hubpages.com/_39d9hjsh86gzq/h...e-Domain-Names "...it is what Google and the others do to find you and figure out what you are about
