Site not optimized before backlinks

I did work on a site that a programmer reverted to a previous version that lacked any SEO. It was a few weeks on before it was caught and fixed. In that time, many thousands of links were made.

I am wondering what to do. Is there a any value in pinging the thousands of backlinks? OR do I simply start over? Anyone have any advice on this situation?

lol pinging backlinks? don't waste your time. just build links again. if the old links are not broken no worries and if they are i wouldn't see any sense in pinging "thousands of backlinks"

  • Don't really get what you mean, but as long as you built the links once, they won't just disappear...

It's not a problem. The links were built to your site, not to the contents of your site - they will still be pointing to your site after you made the SEO changes (unless you also changed the URL), and will hold the same weight. You don't need to ping them or anything.

Thanks Amanda. The links used anchor text that simply wasn't on the site for weeks. That's the part that I was having trouble with. Thanks for your post. I thought that would be the answer, but wasn't sure.

The old links are not useless, simply continue building links until you rank!

You can just build links again. Pinging thousands of backlinks is such a waste of time.

Of all that I've learned, I still have no firsthand experience for pinging links etc. I think Kok Choon is a great contributor here and his Nuclear Ping Scheduler has some good feedback. Others 'energize' links and until I try it myself, I can't say. There are many people that are adamant on both sides of that argument.

For this site, I'm just building, building. Funny enough, they launched a site for the exact same keywords, more of a marketing reason, and it was made in Wordpress. That site is ranking and goes 1 or 2 higher daily with just on page SEO and no links built at all. The other site was coded by hand and is well optimized. At the rate it is going, the new site will rank higher than the existing one in a month!
