If I set a wordpress blog before buying a domain, can I later go on to purchase a domain without any problems regarding SEO?

That would be two different PR Page Ranks I believe. Like I have a Blogger blog that has great rank but if I were to purchase a new domain. I would have to start from scratch as far as SEO.

if you're going to transfer all the content you would need to delete the word press blog for about I don't know maybe 60 days before deploying it on a new domain but I wouldn't even risk that. The reason you don't want to deal with WordPress is because you can't do a 301 to move your domain content to your new domain. 301s are bad habit anyway a lot of people accept them because they've been doing it for years and they're quick and easy.

But my real advice here would be to just use WordPress as a learning tool. I was just talking with a client that was frustrated that they could not grow on their WordPress blog. The problem with blogs is they are limited on navigation structure. There navigation is robotic in nature and cannot result in a unique structure and cannot grow into the customization businesses need in the future.

the client was trying to grow a major business off of a blog and that's just not realistic. Think of it like $10 hosting versus dedicated servers... You just can't get performance out of blog. And the only real proof of that is to ask how often do you see a blog on page 1 of Google. Basically never.

So warm up on WordPress if you like... Get your Seo basics down... And then go for a regular site... And don't use blogging software to build it.

Are you really talking about wordpress.com? Then I would not recommend this. NastyBlast has given you all the reasons

So you mean that one should not use wordpress to build a really well ranking site?

For really really tough keywords you might be right. For keywords that are medium difficult to rank for WordPress is the system to use in my opinion. I think it works great.

What you always have to consider is the fact that it is more than a blogging software. Nowadays, it is a full blown CMS that you can customize any way you want.

Plus - especially for newbies - it is way easier to learn and handle than for example joomla.
