I don't know why I'm confusing myself with this question because I feel as though I already do and should know this, however I'm going to ask just for clarification.

When your trying to rank for a KWP in Google and your currently in the process of sizing up your competition and choosing which keyword phrase out of your list of potentials would be the best to go for competition/ranking wise - which way of 'Google-searching' is the best method for us as internet marketers; either "KWP", or KWP (with or without quotes)?

My guess is I need to be searching with quotes, correct? Because with quotes means it gathers the exact searches whereas without is broad. The exact searches is my direct competition for ranking with my exact KWP I'm targeting.

I feel like I'm in class and I'm asking my professor (You WF genius's)

Please let me know if I'm correct or if I'm way off or if I'm leaving anything out - thanks so much and once again...I am constantly amazed at the wealth of info. and support here, it means alot! :p:rolleyes:

P.S. Plus, if you could perhaps reccommend an average range to stay above and below?? I really have no idea and I don't wish to target something that is ridiculously high. Thanks again!

No, you will need to use both.

Do you notice some service like ranking keywords, really care how many search result does your keyword has. I mean they charge depends on how many search result your keyword has.

Like you should know, how many people out there knows the quoting.

You really dont want to be determining your competetion by using "KWP". They only thing you should be concerned about is the top 10 in google. I like to use Traffic Travis for this (its free). Traffic travis will look up the top 20 in google and tell the age, PR, backlinks, and if they are targeting the keyword.

    You want to look for

Pr -of under 2 for at least 3 sites in the top ten
backlinks -of under 100 for the top site.
    strenght of the backlinks
age- less is better but it isnt that important.
see if they are targetting the keyword in their H1, title and description.

You can pm or email me at maxzellers2000@yahoo.com if you have any other questions.

Thats awesome advice, thanks! The only question I have then is why exactly I should not use quotes?? Some people are telling me to use them and others are not for this research phase and noone has really told me the pros and cons of them so I'm still slightly confused haha. I just need briefed on the basics.

Thanks for all replies thus far!!

You should also consider researching your keywords without quotes cause there are still sites that are authority, has millions of backlinks and high PR on the top page. Even if you're keyword has low competition, you cant outrank this authority websites if they're tanking on the first page, especially when they're on the top 5 rank.
