Amazon, best selling mid price, or ok selling high price?

Hi guys, I'm trying to decide which products best to promote, high priced with ok sales, or mid priced best sellers.

The mid priced ones, around $100 - $300, are the best sellers, 50 - 150 reviews... while there are products in the $1000 - $3000 price range, with between 4 - 15 reviews, all 4 star and above.

I want to promote 7 products, so... a mix of both? or, 5 high priced and 2 mid priced?

Cheers

I guess it depends on your keywords and what type of people will be coming to your site. For instance if you're selling HD TVs and the main keywords leading people to your site are "HD TV codes" and "HD TV Quick Review" there might be more chance people are looking for info and less chance of a sale. SO basically - is this a new venture or do you already have a site up and running where you know what types of keywords are leading people to your site?

I personally wouldn't spend $1000 in one hit online without a very good reason. However some people probably will. However I'd go with the mid priced items first and the higher priced ones at the bottom.

Well, if we take your example, the keyword would be, "HD TV"

I hear ye, I can do half and half, and come back to it and see what the numbers are.

Those $1000 and more products are so tempting

JMO but don't get to excited about best sellers with a lot of reviews, sometimes it only means it's been around longer, and in some niches could even be outdated. Here's a best selling TV, Google's insights shows it's actually in a downward spiral.

Never thought of this... very good point, I'll check the dates of the reviews.

It's not a technology product, so it's not so date sensitive...

Yes but wouldn't you rather get the commission on the sale of 10x$400 items that on 2x$1000 items?

I actually don't care much about the price tags of the products I'm promoting, as long as it's $50 or more. It's true though that cheaper products tend to convert better, but in the end it's all about EPC (how much you earn for every click sent to Amazon). You just have to test and see what provides the best results for you, as it's different in every niche.

In your case it sounds like you're doing a review site or something for a specific product category. In that case it makes total sense to do a little of both, and then tell people WHY they should spend a lot more for a high-end product.

Also, I'm curious... why exactly 7 products? I mean, why stop there instead of expanding?

Thanks for the feedback... There's products in the $1000's with only 4 and less reviews, so I've stayed away from them. 15 and more reviews is game on though. And of course, will test and see what transpires.

As for the 7 products, I'm following jan's amazon wso... so, going to launch a few sites with that model, to see how it goes.

But of course, if the sites are doing well, I'll add more products, maybe even lower priced ones, to get more conversions, and keep the commission up.
