I'm trying to build backlinks using Yahoo! Answers. Do the links pass link juice? Or they're just dead, no-follow links? For those who have experience doing this.

I know that the links are helpful in generating traffic. I just like to know if these links give us the needed "juice" to increase SERP rankings or a site's PR..

It is nofollow, so its not much good for passing on "link juice" but if your site was mentioned many times on yahoo answers that would be a sure sign of popularity to the search engines.
Try not to worry about "nofollow" tags, a link is a link.
Your right about traffic though, yahoo answers has only ever been used for traffic generation, back in the day you could put in affiliate links.
These days its not worth the hassle, you need a level 2 account just to leave a link and if it is seen as promotional in anyway...down comes the ban hammer!

From what I know, it is best to start off linking to popular sites related to the query, say, like wikipedia and others. This will not look spammy. Over a period of time, you can insert a link here and a link there belonging to you.

    Gaining trust is the crux.

It won't past "link juice" since it's no-follow, but it's still a really good way to generate traffic. Though people who use yahoo answers less than before, for me it's still the third resources to generate traffic, following social midea websites and search engine.

Yeah, I have this plug-in, and I already know that the site's links are nofollow. That's why I specifically asked in my 1st post answers from "those who have experienced or used Yahoo Answers for backlinking purposes."

It is not a hard fact that nofollow links do not pass link juice. Topics about this across the Internet are conflicting, that's why I wanted to get to hear additional inputs from those people with "Y Answers backlinking experience" have got to say. And I chose WF because there are people here who can give good information on the topic.

Do you have experience in backlinking specifically with Yahoo! Answers?

"While all engines that use the nofollow value exclude links that use it from their ranking calculation, the details about the exact interpretation of it vary from search engine to search engine.

"Google states that their engine takes "nofollow" literally and does not "follow" the link at all. However, experiments conducted by SEOs show conflicting results. These studies reveal that Google does follow the link, but does not index the linked-to page, unless it was in Google's index already for other reasons (such as other, non-nofollow links that point to the page)."

"Yahoo! "follows it", but excludes it from their ranking calculation."

"Bing respects "nofollow" as regards not counting the link in their ranking, but it is not proven whether or not Bing follows the link."

    "Ask.com also respects the attribute."

"No reliable data has been published on the effectiveness or potential harm that use of nofollow on internal links may provide. Unsubstantiated claims have been challenged throughout the debate and some early proponents of the idea have subsequently cautioned people not to view the use of nofollow on internal links as a silver bullet or quick-success solution."

Basically no, Yahoo has change all links to no-follow/external.
Which brings no juice to the site.

Yahoo Answers is more known for building traffic, not backlinks. No link juice will be passed, all those links are nofollow!

The first reply was great. Of course search engines will see the link and think something of it. However, if you make a proper answer, it can be a great source of traffic, since Yahoo Answers gets indexed in Google for questions that people ask. When someone has a question, they are willing to do a lot to get the answer, so they will probably visit your link if they are interested.

  • Also keep in mind that if you want your link to be clickable, you have to be a Yahoo Answers II member. Which is defined by answering a specific number of questions or those answers being voted best answer.

So if you are going to go through the trouble of answering questions to get a link back to your site. You probably should invest a couple hours of your time to first become a yahoo answers II member.

This is reality that link juice is not transferred in no follow links but Google always talk about good quality back links. And if you are getting relevant good quality links even if they are no follow then they are still worthwhile.
