Unique content.... does it really matter?

Hi,
About 10 months ago I started a website. It's about university reviews. We are trying to provide short reviews of universities from many countries. It obviously means thousands of universities, which also means we can't possible write all of them by ourselves.
So we take info from wikipedia and the institutions' webpages (of course the sources are indicated), but it also means our content isn't unique. Nevetheless, our traffic has been increasing ever since we started the site. We haven't even done any proper SEO or linkbuilding either. now we have about 500 daily visitors. All our traffic comes from search engines.
So as the title says, does unique content matter?
