Ranking drops because of a banner?

I have one site which got phenomenal traffic on a particular sub-page and which ranked very high in Google UK for a keyword for that page.

So i added one more banner on that page (into the content) to a clickbank product.

In addition i also did one of my usual article marketing robot blasts.

Right now the site dropped significantly in rankings for that one keyword. (Well...this is normal because i ALWAYS see significant drops and dances especially after i blast some links.)

But i am not sure right now whether the banner i added plays a role too.

Who has experience in ranking drops after they ranked very well for a KW on a page and then added something like a banner...and their ranking significantly dropped because of the added banner (or affiliate link)?

If you didn't do anything else to the site but add the banner then I could believe it was the culprit.

However, since you said that you recently concluded a link blast this is most likely the reason why. Google saw you had more links coming in and thus you started to dance.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

Dose google have policy to penalize particular banners, such as banners from its competitors?

Advertising can often be frowned upon by Google as the search engine want to give the user the most relevant answer to their query.

You can try adding a nofollow tag to the banner as see what happens...

Would suggest that it is the blast rather than banner. I have a site that has gone out of top 1000 after a AMR blast, still waiting 4 weeks later for it to come back. Not worried as it will. Think you may have a similar scenario.

I think your link blast has negatively affected your website rankings. Adding a banner will nofollow attribute should not harm to your website rankings

I think you have to wait for a week in order to get a clear view of things. Sometimes due to linkbuilding blasts your rankings move up and down with very large numbers. I don't think click bank links can negatively impact your site ranking.

Instead of giving direct link to click bank product, set a redirection to that link from your own site.

    Thanks

It is more likely the link blast, the google bot doesn't see images, so chances are it only registers the link, seeing as you can be penalised for too many out bound links, so many take another out bound link from your bulk.

But I agree the no follow should also work.
