hi,

I have site with 6000 backlinks - for nonWWW - http://,
with 2000 backlinks - for WWW - www.

when I made redirection from nonWWW to WWW, 6000 backlinks dissappered and remanined 2000
if to remove redirection, 6000 are back

what will you do in that situation?

Also got into that issue a while ago with www and non www.

I just from then on used the www one and will forever. Lesson learned the hard way. Its up to you what you will decide to do next and what to keep or not...

wait you said 6000 is back, so whats the issue here? Conclusion, you can't do this redirection without losing out...

You certainly can't combine them as they are considered 2 distinct/different sites in the eyes of SE's herein lies the issue

I am considering what is better to have?
    1) www - 2000 and http - 6000
    OR
    2) redirect http to www and then www - 2000

just don't want to give you a bad suggestion so I'll let someone else answer back to you.

Wait, what if you redirect the opposite way?? Sorry its 4AM here...

Choose one domain ASAP, use 301 redirect. I met this problem before, both www and non-www url got rank in 1st page, then one day, got penalized. As to which one to choose, on which url you've done more SEO work? I mean linkbuilding and other stuff.

Tell me whether your site is indexed in search engine for www version or non www version.
put your site in search engine and check it.
If it is indexed in www version then move non www to www or vice versa.
Whether your site is www version or non www version content is important,no problem in thinking the versions.Me too having great sites using non www version.
    Hope this helps.

Take whichever one has the better backlinking now and continue on with that one. Redirect the other one. It should pass on some of the ranking, but when you check backlinks they are not going to show up.

For example, if you choose the non WWW...

The WWW will pass on some of its ranking when you do the redirect, but when you check backlinks for the non WWW you will only see the backlinks for the non WWW. You won't see the backlinks for both.

I think just about all of us have made this mistake at some point in our IM career. I can tell you one thing though... It only takes one time. You won't forget to do this again.

      if I google "www.myDomain.com" and "http://myDomain.com"

I see google results in both cases

If you set redirection in any way (www to http// or http:// to www), your backlinks will not be visible but still it will provide you some power due to 301 redirection.
