Have you read about the Google +1 button?
+1 to great web content - Inside AdSense

What do you think it will do in therms of SEO? Will this be the next thing to "play" with when trying to rank higher?

I agree that its going to fail, but chances are that they would use similar protection to that which is used to stop click fraud on adwords/ sense right?
