I have been having trouble understanding the concept of building 2.0 sites and gaining valuable backlinks from them.. I have built many that are supposed do follow and I have yet to see any of those back links show up. This was months ago too so I figured they would show up by now.

Is there a way to get google to crawl these sites? Or are these links pretty much useless?

Some web 2.0 sites require that you reach a certain "status" or "point amount" before your links become dofollow. Both Squidoo and Hubpages do this as far as I recall.

That would make sense, thanks. Do you know if it is even worth it to go through the trouble for a backlink from these sites?

In most cases, a link is a link right? With abit more effort you get a nice link from squidoo and hubpages.

When building web2.0 sites, it not enough to post content and an anchor text. You need to do more to it such as bookmarking it, backlinking with eg ezinearticles, link wordpress.com to squidoo etc. and then funnel it all back to your money site.

          Michael,

Can you tell me the reasoning behind wanting to get say backlinks from article directories to your 2.0 sites and not just have those go to your money site?
          Thanks

It's a linkwheel, which funnels traffic indirectly, and thus in a more natural way to your site (according to SERP standards).

Even if the links were no follow they would still show up in a backlink check. I think in most cases the reason would be one of the following 2:

    1) the links still haven't been indexed yet

    2) the program you're using is unable to see all the backlinks. The google "site:" command for examply only shows you a sample of all existing backlinks. I believe the most reliable program for checking backlinks is probably SEO Spyglass.
