Article Writing Question

I am in the process of writing articles. Most of my articles are with ezinearticles, should I venture out so that all of my backlinks aren't from the same place and submit these articles to other directories? Does google penalize for multiple backlinks from the same site?

Definitely use others. After you get two or three links from the same site the 'juice' or potency of those links begins to decrease.

There are a lot of other directories you can post to as well. Just change the first 3 lines and you'll be good to go.

    What are some others?

ust change the first 3 lines and you'll be good to go.
Does this mean I can use the same article by changing the first three lines instead of writing a brand new article?

I would disagree. You're better to rewrite or change the structure considerably in my opinion.

A few years ago I knew of one or two sites that appeared to have number 1 rankings mainly due to having hundreds or articles on Ezinearticles. I don't think this is the case now but having lots of links from one authority site.. even forums can have an impact on rankings although these days I couldn't say how much.

By submitting articles to multiple and authoritive sites you will get more benefit though so don't limit yourself. Also, set up some pages on web 2.0 sites. Just experiment.

Yes, you can usually submit the same article. But you want to change it enough that it gets indexed by Google. To be honest, if I just change the first few sentences a bit and the very last sentences, my articles always get indexed. So yes, you are correct.
