Directory Submissions

i was curious what others think about Directory Submission for a blog or site?

i'm not talking about playing a $15 and having someone blast your blog to 200 watered down directories, i'm talking about the big ones: DMOZ, Yahoo, GoGuides etc. the ones where they actually review your site and you pay a hefty fee ($400-$250ish) per submission.

has anyone had any experience with these directories? obviously DMOZ is basically impossible to be accepted into and it could take months to years to hear back from them. but what about the others?

thanks in advance

Just to submit your URL to goguides, it's $69.95 USD. and if you're going to do it, I would suggest that you only submit sites which have been written by a professional copywriter, not an article writer or general content freelancer.

once you're included on goguides, it's a lifetime inclusion but it cannot be edited (at least not by you)

are there strong benefits for a GoGuides listing?

i am just trying to figure out what benefit your site recieves. does it get a high value backlink, exposure, traffic, trust from google? I just want some understanding of this realm

i just re-read your post. i have been doing all the work on my blog myself. all the writing was myself as well. would it be wise for me not to submit?

RedStanford, there are different opinions on this. Some think that you should be in as many as possible. Others think that you should only bother with the popular ones. And even others think that even the popular paid ones are a waste of money because they're watered down and nobody uses directories anymore for search.

What I derived from all of this (for myself) is that something is better than nothing, particularly when dealing with a newer site, and being in some of these popular directories "could" provide some much-needed link juice, being that they have such long history. I paid for about 3 of them and that's it. I spend the rest of my time on other SEM avenues.

heres the deal with directories.....they are still one link at the end of the day.
$100 for 1 link buried down at a directory is a waste.

using that $100 to buy 25 unique articles to publish at 25 different sites is much better in my opinion
