Good read, but interesting how Google knows what is "good" content.

Would you trust the information presented in this article? - how will they know that?

If I had to guess, they may integrate some degree of "social proof"--commenting on articles and content--into their algorithm, somehow. It may be very difficult to make an articles itself perfect, however, when you are able to receive a slieu of individuals all contributing comments that further debates or explores other aspects of the content, I think Google may see that as valuable.

"No, I would never recommend doing that...I would recommed doing this, and here is why..."

I do think comments on content will become increasingly important.

        Strange...

Not once did they mention having a crap-load of backlinks from dead directories or forums or profiles...

Don't they know that the only thing that counts is backlinks?

Don't listen to Google! Seriously just keep doing good on page and building as many backlinks as possible. You could spend a lifetime listening to all that kind of stuff.

I think that the main point in building a quality site is the quality of the information and how that information is conveyed. For example, since I started adding video to my blog posts I've noticed that people are now finding my site because of the videos. I've also started including links to other sites in my posts (I make sure the link opens a new window) as a source of 'more information' on the topic.

Also the readability has something to do with the h1 and h2 tags. That tells Google that your site is well planned and thought out. That you took some time with it.

It's just like a newspaper - headline, sub headline...and that makes the text easier to read, scan and digest.

This is great advice for those who are wishing to build the ultimate bad-ass authority site in just about any niche. From my own experience a "great" site means you have the following:

Great original content that is relevant to the topic.
Updated damn near daily. Not just one article, but three or four.
Good on-page SEO that is inline with 2011's best SEO practices.
Social networking dialed directly into the site (Commenting from with you Facebook etc).
Has a variety of content. Videos, short articles, long articles, articles that specifically ask for reader comments.

    and finally...

Is written for READERS and not search engines.

If you have the patience to do all of that for a solid year straight I know for a fact that you wouldn't need any off-page SEO services. Why? Because I've done it my damn self!

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

Just do what Google wants and you will be rewarded, not only by them but in general. On my sites, I focus on giving valuable content that readers want, and in return, they link for me, and Google gives me more authority.

I think Google knows this but they are hopefully working on a way to resolve the issue. The article is at least trying to make it seem like they are working to fix the issues.

I doubt Social Proof will be coming from blog comments, Twitter tweets and Facebook fans either. They'll be paying more attention to way users interact with the search results.

They and Bing are already doing this to some extent. Bing was actually using other search engines to see what results users click on to make their own results more accurate. Google is constantly making small and large movements to the top 10 search results which I would like to assume is a way they are measuring bounce rates and poor quality results without having to rely on third party data.

Google's reading of language isn't perfect but I think it is getting better and will continue to improve.

If you look at the list with an open mind and try and work out how a computer could programatically measure each of those then you will get an idea that it is possible, at least for some.

Backlinks are mentioned in that post. The first two bullet points can be measured via backlinks. The quality measure of those backlinks just needs to be improved. Google was always based on authorities and trusted hubs.

The Credit Card one is interesting. Maybe looking for trusted payment gateways on ecommerce sites.
