Idea for a challenge: rank page one only with free tools/services?

I don't personally want to get into any big challenges (no time, argh!) but I thought someone might get a kick out of trying to rank a reasonably competitive term using just free services and tools (or those with free trials etc). If nothing else, it might be useful to compile a list of such services/tools for people on a budget to use.

So, here are a few suggestions, stuff that I have used or am using (no aff links):

Pinging/indexing/automatic backlinks:
Internet Marketing & SEO Forum - IMT Website Submitter
Linklicious.me - Scheduled RSS Feeds to get your Backlinks Crawled FAST (will leave you to determine how effective the free options are)

Directory submissions:
Internet Marketing & SEO Forum | IMTalk.org

Tracking
Search engine rank tracker (SERP TRACKER) used by top SEOs (quite limited free trial, ten keywords)

Article directory submissions:
The Ultimate Article Marketing, Spinning & Submission Tool *EVER* (free five-day trial, so do what you want to do quickly! I got a site to the top of page 2 when testing this with just one blast - I think Vince inserts his own link too, though)

Spinning: (hate it myself, but if that's your thing, and it is most people's )
article spinner, the best spinner, article rewrite software, free article spinner, article spinner software, top article rewriter, tool, creator, generator, article writing (plenty of features in the free version)

Social bookmarking:
SocialMonkee - Your Instant Backlink Builder!
Automated Submission to Social Media Sites | OnlyWire
Social bookmarking service. Fast tagging and posting to all major social websites - SocialMarker.com

Do you think with a bit more work you could rank a site using these free services (plus a lot of Web 2.0 manual legwork)? Sure you could! Yep, no profile links though, why, this stuff is almost white-hat (yuk)!

Anyone add to this list?

This could become an awesome post, if everybody posts their free tools everyone can use. I'm kinda new: didn't already use a tool, just learning right now.

I haven't tried out any submission tools yet, but I am about to. One that sounds legitimate is the Ultimate Submitter Kit. Another tool that needs to be installed on your web server is SEO Panel, an open-source tool. Seopanel has other tools besides the submission; I tried their demo and the directories seemed pretty cheesy, but I suppose that will be true of most of these auto-submission tools. But right now my site could use a good kick-start, so...

I'm also looking at digixmas and fastdirectorysubmitter: they are paid but cheap compared to a lot of the others. Anyone with feedback about those, I would welcome it (you can pm me if you don't want to clutter this thread with paid tool chatter).

    What's moderately competitive? 5,000 allintitle: results? 10,000? 50,000?

I'd say 5,000 is moderately competitive, but can also be easily done with bum marketing. 10,000 would take a little bit longer and probably between 2-3,000 backlinks, but it also depends on the context of the keyword on other websites.

Another freebie I've come across is CryoSubmitter (v1.4). No idea whether it works or not: I've been unable to find any objective reviews of either Cryosubmitter or Ultimate submitter. Plenty of reviews on the lower-ranked "free software download" sites, but I suspect most of those were written by the SW developers themselves to promote their own stuff.

If anyone has used either tool, please post a review here or PM me.
