Apart from indexing what is the point of bookmarking urls?

Some people say it's for backlinks as well but I wasn't sure how valid the source was...

is this correct? anything else?

My web2.0s are already indexed so if it is mainly for that then I'm thinking there isn't much point.

    They pass link juice so if you want more link juice they are good for that. Also Google recently has said they are taking into consideration social signals if Im not mistaken. So if any of those bookmark sites have a way to vote, you can give some positive votes to your site you are linking to and who knows maybe Google will give you some love for it:-)
