Hi guys,

I notices that in jan I got 5 million hits. Feb I got 5 million hits. Mar j got 6 million! And April back down to 5 million.

That extra million visitors made a massive difference to my cheque.

BUT because I use the free version of statcounter - I couldn't look back to see why my site did well in march.

So I decided to switch to analytics -- but at the same time, have linked all my accounts together. Have I just given google too much access to my data? Am I being paranoid? Is it a good idea?

I'm thinking the adsense code gives google all the gossip on my site anyway -- but I cannot help worry that now with analytics data -- they make think the stats don't meet the money I'm earning -- and I lose my adsense or drop my rankings.

You definitely put yourself more in the eye of Google by doing this. I personally recommend to never ever use WebMaster Tools or Analytics. Google is like any huge company.. meaning they have completely different departments working independently of each other... and their AdSense division is likely completely separate from their division in charge of quality and indexing. I'm sure it' s a topic of disagreement but I would be surprised if the WebMaster squad even has access to sites running AdSense. By sticking your sites all in WT/Analytics though, you've just made it very easy for them to deindex all at once, should they ever find something they don't like.

    But I don't believe for a second you're getting 5/6 million visitors.

Remember this is hits, a hit is not always a visitor. I load an image on a page, that is a hit.

Yes - you are right, 5/6 million hits = about 4/5million visitors.

      Thanks guy for your replies.

I am a bit worried now. I'm just worried if the stats show people are just clicking onto my site for 1 second - then leaving, google may drop my site, or close my adsense account

I can see with statcounter that 90% of my visitors leave within 5 seconds.

This isnt something i really want google to see -- unless they dont care.

I just need to be able to track my stats better than the free statcounter offers - and analytics would be perfect.

If i could find out what changed in the month of March - to get the hits back up to 6 million from 5 -- i'd be laughing.

Sounds like you have some really high-quality content so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

So just a crazy idea.. how about the uh.... "paid" statcounter version.. or one of the other million stat tracking services?
