New Website SEO- Do The Same Strategies Work?

Hi Warriors,

I have a new site with "moderately easy" keyword competition. But I have almost zero backlinks right now (only a handful indexed).

Should I use the same strategy that others use for established sites?

Would I get the same benefit out of a link pyramid or blog comment backlinks? Or should I forgo that route until Google sees that I have "some" backlinks before I ramp up the number to avoid penalty?

Any good WSO's that would help me climb the ranks in this situation?

  • It's not so much a penalty on the number of backlinks, it is a signal that something is going on. Your site, being new, should be getting steady backlinks. If you get 100 backlinks a day, that is fine - but it needs to be consistant, day after day.

If you go out and do some kind of backlink blast that brings in thousands of backlinks all of a sudden, then none after that - you are shooting yourself in the foot.

Blog comments are a good way to get started. The only problem is you cant always get your anchor text in blog comments, so you need to have backlinks from different types of sites. Remember, a site getting links naturally will get backlinks from all kind of websites, not just blog comments.

You didnt speak to the quality of your site's architecture and content. The way your site is setup will go a long way to determining how google will interpret your site.

For now, look for steady backlinks in different types of sites. Even if it is just a handful a day, go for it. If you do a blast of some sort, you will see an immediate spike in rankings, followed by a hard fall in the SERPS, before leveling off somewhere in the middle.

The website is a paid membership site with about 600-700 pages of content, so unfortunately, A LOT of my best keywords are behind the wall.

      • That is a problem, but it can be overcome. What platform/CMS are you using?

The key is to start with a press release before building any serious backlinks quickly as the press release gives validity to any surge in backlinks.

Googles algo definitely corelates these two and accepts it

            Then again...there's always PPC ;)

That makes sense. How long after the press release should you wait before aggressive link building?

I don't wait per-se but the main bulk of a quick booster I will accelerate in between 1 to 5 days without pinginging or trying to index anything for a new site so end of 5 days I will have done around 1500 to 2000 mixed backlinks max in this kind of tactic

What you can do create some good content first with your keywords in it. Also quality backlinks works better than blog comments and even link pyramids. You can also try and trade links with other web sites too. Also you can create a few articles on ezine and have your BL there

I only give a new site one or two good quality backlinks to start with, I then build up gradually, I don't bother with links wheels, pyramids, rasta wheels or whatever else they are called, I just direct link using buildmyrank links (I outsource this), a few bookmarks (automated service) and one or two articles sometimes and blog comments. works really well for me just make sure your on page seo is good, SEO pressor is a great plugin to help with that.

    Cheers
    Neil

Just keep adding quality content, and diversify your link building. Try some link wheels and pyramids. Submit your URL to as many directories as you can. I won't blast the site directly if it's new, try and get a buffer site running on a 2.0 property. Than blast away, that should get you on page 1 or 2. Than just keep up the good work.

    Cheers,
    Ken

Start backlinking but start slower and stay consistent and then raise it over time.

Balance your linking with on page content publishing...this has worked really well for me. About one article per 100 to 400 links, once the site is three or four months old, you can slow down on the content publishing and focus on link building
