I am new to Internet Marketing and jumped in with both feet 10 days ago.

My Background:

I owned 4 different Brick and Mortar businesses ranging from a Snowboard Shop to a Coffee Shop, currently working for a utility company as a foreman (outside work). Earned a degree in Computer Science, after originally earning most my credits in English in my late 30s. The utility company pays me double what I would make in I.T. I have made decent money on the side creating Web Sites, but never dabbled in SEO until now.

Motivation:

Tired of working for a company which I do not own, realizing that it is very hard for someone with an entrepreneurship spirit to work for a corporate organization. I have a great job and I am thankful to have it in this economy. It is difficult knowing there is this monetary ceiling hanging over my head. I seek more out of life now and this is why I am beginning this venture.

SEO Self Education

I Began reading forums about escalating Google rankings after starting a creative writing blog. Stumble upon the Four Hour Work Week, read it and related to it. Began following some journals by experienced SEO'rs, watching numerous YouTube Vids on SEO and lurking in the shadows here devouring information. Decided the best education was just jumping in and get started.

First Project

I started my first project 10 days ago. I researched Keywords using Googles keyword tool, found a topic I was knowledgeable about and registered the domain name with Godaddy and got hosted on the economy package. I decided to go with WordPress instead of using my Dreamweaver suite to design a site.

I started immediately optimizing my pages, began researching and writing my own articles which has been very time consuming. I was working until 2:00 AM creating good content, and then getting up at 7:00 am for a demanding day at work. I have about 20 quality pages up now with good SEO keywords.

Tools I am Using

  • WordPress (with purchased theme)
  • SEOpressor
  • All in one SEO
  • Adsense
  • Article Marketing Robot
  • The Best Spinner

I just started using Article Marketing Robot a few days ago, I am not seeing much traffic increase with it yet, although lots of successful submissions so I am confident I will see some increase in the future.

  1. Seopressor has helped me tremendously in getting my post optimized.
  2. Adsense has worked pretty well for my add placements
  3. The Best Spinner has been an incredible asset for me since I write so many articles.
  4. All in One SEO helps me much in the same way SEOpressor has.

Affiliate Choice:

  • Google Adsense
  • Commission Junction
Running both ads on my site for a test to see which performs the best. At this time Adsense is clearly winning for me, probably due to the content in my site.

Results after 10 days

My site started with 12 hits on the first day, in hindsight I should of waiting to give Google access until I had more content... lesson learned. The second day I had 6 hits. I was fine with the numbers, I really was not expecting any hits for a while so I was pleased with anything at this point. On day three hits climbed to 60, probably from adding more content and starting to backlink a little, I was seeing some referring traffic and search results coming in from Google on my stats page. I had my first click on the third day and I mad about .40 cents. To me it seemed like 40 dollars and it made me feel good to see the potential in this venture.

I started a Ezine Article account and now have about 10 articles on their site available to the public, along with AMR injecting about 5 articles a day to various other article sites. After 10 days my traffic is about 120 hits a day, my CTR with adsense is around 2.5 to 3 percent. I am averaging about a .70 cents a day now. As I keep adding content my site is climbing up the Google chain, I am on the first page for a few of my post topics now, I will continue trying to get that coveted number one slot by refining my SEO tactics.

Future Plans

I plan on having another site up this week, I am in the process of searching out keywords for my domain name in a lucrative market of around 80k global hits a month. I plan on developing a system and replicating it with other sites.

So thats it for my first post on the Warrior Forum. Obviously I am new at this and have much to learn, that is why I am welcoming any constructive criticism, while at the same time helping others learn from my chosen path down the SEO hwy.

    Welcome to the forum Tommy!

Judging from your first post I think you will certainly become a valued member to this forum over time, and I'm sure as you gain more experience you will be better equipped to offer even more value.

I have to compliment you on the discipline and work ethic you have displayed; this mindset will certainly position you to become a success in this industry.

You seem to have done most things write as a relative newb, but I will suggest that you diversify your backlink sources. Include web 2.0's, blog comments, bookmarks, blog networks to your backlinking strategy. You should also try and get high PR (on-page) backlinks as these will give your site a little more trust in Google's eyes and it will certainly provide a boost in the SERP's.

    Enjoy the forum!
