They say that .org domains are "non-profit". I have found a keyword I want to go for and make a online store out of to sell a amazon product but the only domain available is a .org Will I not rank as well in google if im selling amazon products on a .org domain?

Penalization depending on the TLD (Top Level Domain) extension is a blatant Myth

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I've yet to see some evidence that suggests otherwise. Google and other search engines for that matter will never be clear about this, as is the nature of SEO. However penalizing a website solely because of their TLD is just stupid and highly unlikely.

I also think it is a myth, cause I ranked some .info domains over some .com domains.

Same here, I heard lots of people said .info domains not good, but I saw so many websites with .info domain got good rank recently. So maybe the domain is not the key point, pay more attention on contents and backlinks building, they will be helpful.

There is no way you can be penalized by Google for having a .org. In fact, currently exact-match .orgs enjoy a boost in Google.

...not until you dig deep, yo will never understand. Keywords are being traded upon and your site might just be a trade-off for the selected keyword and it might just be for a .org tld for selling amazon products.

You got noting to worry about, whether you have .net .org .info .com or .biz they all rank the same. And also the original purpose for .org - organization or 'non profit' a as you said, nowdays it does not matter at all.

          How about this site: school-grants.org
          Sold for $80,000 on flippa.

They sure have penalized wikipedia.org haven't they?

Google could care less about the extension, unless country specific.

And they don't give a dot org a boost either.

I think Google will not punish you. I also met many similar cases but no one was fined by using the ORG website for business.

My primary site is a .org. I was ranking # 5; and got # 2 about a month and a half ago leading up until yesterday. Yesterday, i hit # 1. My domain also has a dash, looks like this wwww.keyword-one.org

So I would say discrimination on .org's is invalid

Yes you will be penalized, only if you don't put content lol. If that was the case that you had to be a non-profit then you would have to put in your non-profit id in when you bought the domain. There is not special code in Google algorithm. Time+load time +content+links+likes is the key for any domain.
