After some of my decent posts on my blog, I social bookmark then using the share this button. In the past I'd bookmark with digg, stumble, delicious and twitter.

Now through trial and error, I've discovered that digg and reddit are by far the best for your targeted audience. Don't get me wrong, stumble and digg both send alot of traffic, but stumble seems to be useless traffic.

Today, I still don't know how, I've recieved a big surge of traffic from reddit. Not only that, the traffic is targeted and my blog has become like a forum with all the comments. To say I'm excited would be an understatement.

Has anyone experienced this with reddit?

If you haven't been bookmarking with reddit I would strongly suggest you do.

All the listed sites work, but all of a sudden reddit has become my #1 social bookmarking site. I've been bookmarking for a while and never had this kind of traffic from reddit.

Still can't work out whats happenening. The last post I bookmarked on Reddit gave me 428 visitors in one day.

The previous post gave me a total of 328 in 3 days. Checked to see if I made the first page, but couldn't find my post any where?

Anyone have any ideas? I'd love to work out whats causing this.

Try Googling the keywords you used. Your bookmark may be ranking high in the SERP's and are getting traffic from Google searches.

This happens a lot with Digg, Reddit and other social bookmarking sites when the posts are optimized for Google.

If you have blogs about technology, computer, computer network, computer certifications, etc. I find that proprofs.com has a bookmarking section which brings me top targeted traffic.

I have similar condition with you.

I get many traffic from digg and reddit, but I get a few traffic from SU. Can consider no...

I am wondering why this will happen and this makes me stop using SU for a few weeks.

Traffic from social bookmarking sites are very unpredictable. Moreover, I think there is a bigger problem.

I am not sure if you will agree with me, but this is my observation. You may get tons of traffic from these social sites, but you will be lucky if you can make a sale or enjoy from ad clicks.

This is because the traffic you will get from them is social, which means they love to read, comment on blogs, but not to buy or to click an ad. If you really like to have quality traffic that can be converted to money, I suggest that you focus on search engine traffic. This is the place where buyers/ad clickers are going, not social sites.

I tried what the original poster recommended and I KILLED in traffic. I had never got anywhere NEAR this kind of traffic to my hubpages. 334 to one article and 82 to another. For me, that was huge.
However, I have to agree with Richniche. All of those extra impressions resulted in ZERO ad clicks.

If you provide quality content and something of value, the visitors will inevitably become followers. The emphasis should be on building a community with repeat visitors, then trying to get a few clicks on adsense.

In the long term you will have a small hungry communtiy that will buy everythnig you release because of the loyalty factor.

Try and think in terms of a buisness, a long term buisness and don't get frustrated or disappointment that your ads are not being clicked.

I agree... traffic from these site are the same as StumbleUpon traffic. It's just clicks and visits, but not targeted traffic at all...

In my experience, the traffic from those bookmarking sites does not convert very well at all....the surge in traffic you get generally doesn't conver to leads or sales at all.

However, I see the real value in bookmarking sites as helping your indexing in the search engines.

Thats what I used to think. But my traffic is actually coming from a few keywords that are ranking high in the serps.

      Finally worked it out-

Reddit and Digg are showing a snippet of my post on the first page of google. All visitors are actually targetted because they are searching for the keywords. If you optimize your posts as you should be already, then bookmark them, you will rank high for your specified keywords.

At the moment reddit is showing me unbelievable love.

Twitter can give a significant amount of traffic if you do it correctly, yet it won't give you backlinks unless you use it with some other twitter apps like twimbler.

Unless your followers have the same interest as you, twitter visitors are useless. Good for your ego when you check the stats in cpanel, thats about it.

Many thanks to you, TKO, for this wonderful tip. My article now stands at 83 for the first submission and a whopping 448 for the second one I submitted. I'd never seen such a traffic surge over any one thing that I'd tried to do in the past.

No problems Toddie, at the moment I'm running a few more trials using social bookmarking.

Just want to double check some of my findings and i'll report them as soon as possible.

Let me just say this, Reddit was a nice finding, but I think i've unearthed a great gem that I'm sure only a few are doing if any.

      Stay Tuned,

I think that most of the traffic from Reddit is generated from being on the first page of Reddit. A lot of the Reddit strategies were found in this article:
Reddit - Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About It | 10e20 Blog
As a note, I'm still on the first page of google for the search phrase "foot injections" which was optimized for in the article I submitted. Though, I've noticed that the article traffic flow has slowed considerably since I fell off the first Reddit page. Nonetheless, that is a 1.5 million SERP, and to be on page one for that in a matter of hours is pretty phenomenal.
Now I have to figure out better ways to monetize this.

Thanks for the link, it is well researched, surely can help people in understanding social bookmarking - especially reddit - most social bookmarking sites follow the same rules.

Some social bookmarking sites (mostly pligg based sites) place your submitted links to the upcoming section, and they need to get more votes to be moved to the published section - which will increase the chance your links to be seen by more people and get to the first page of the bookmarking sites.

Wow! That's really amazing! However, I believe that it's really hard to monetize traffic from social sites.

But I guess this post from Maki of Dosh Dosh can help, especially for Reddit users. - How to Really Get on the Reddit Frontpage and Make Money

Guys in my opinion, you can get targeted traffic from social bookmarking sites if you know the "culture" of specific bookmarking sites.

For example SU is about anything, Digg - technorati are good for technology, healthranker related to health, proprofs for certifications or knowledge related, nowpublic for news, etc.

The challenge is to make your submitted links stand out among any other links to make it noticable by other users.
