How to Raise Page Rank

Hi Everyone,

I have 2 questions regarding the subject; how to raise page rank of a site. I hope these are not too silly to ask, but I am always looking to learn and thought that after my searches, asking would be the next logical step (and it might help others, too).

1. What is the best way to raise page rank of a site that is around 3-4 years old... at the moment the site has anywhere from 600 - 2000 backlinks (depending on where you look) varying from PR0 to PR9 (only a few with PR9). The site itself has been at PR2 for a couple years.

2. What is the best way to raise page rank of a new site? Whether WP blogs or static sites (with around 10-15 pages of relevant content). I have not worked at backlinking too much to these new sites yet. Before I do, I just wonder if there is a method to backlink to raise PR quicker - and I do understand that age of the site will count.

I am guessing the answer is probably to get a variety of backlinks with all different PR's and have good content. But, I just wonder if there is a quicker way to raise PR (that someone would actually share with us all ) , like to only backlink to high PR sites or to only use web 2.0 properties, etc.

If anyone with experience has any ideas they wouldn't mind sharing, I would greatly appreciate it.

Cindy P.

Comment blasting is way to increase your pagerank. Sure those few high PR backlinks help quite a bit, but hundreds of thousands of backlinks will get the job done.

          Hi Cindy,

First, let me say that PR or PageRank (1 word), is not the same thing as "page rank" (2 words). PageRank, named after Google co-founder Larry Page, is a calculated score based on the Random Surfer Model using a logarithmic scale of 0-10. While "page rank" is generally used to refer to your ranking position in the SERP.

Since your question seems to be asking about how to quickly increase your PageRank score, I will try to answer that. The answer is very simple, yet not very easy to accomplish.

Your PR score is derived from the amount of link juiced passed to your page from the web page that links to yours, divided by the number of outbound links from that page, minus a decay factor. The higher the PR of the page that links to yours the more total link juice your page receives.

To increase your page's PR quickly all you need is a link from a high PR page that has relatively few outbound links. Please note that I said "page", not "site". Google does not assign PR to sites, only individual pages.

It seems like you know the answer (content and link building). As far as a quick fix, I am not sure there is one, but quality link building is one way, but often times it just simple takes time to build up to that.
