Why is my Google search results so different?

I am listing a website for sale and I claim that one of the key word was ranked on the first page of Google.

However, some prospects said that it wasn't on first page of Google. I am puzzled as my search results show that it is on the third position.

Can someone explain why is my search result different from theirs?

Google personalizes search nowadays. It will deliver results based on profiles and everyone's profiles are different. It also tailors to your locality.

Yes, it's probably personalized. Sign out of anything google related. Or probably even better, use something like Scroogle Scraper

What they said Maybe adding a live video of you pulling up the page results would help. Just an idea to consider.

While I agree with the other suggestions, have you cleared cookies in your browser or could you be seeing slightly older results than the guys you're trying to sell to?

Charlottes idea is great by the way - do a quick Jing or Camtasia video showing them what most people see and explain that their results may be skewed if they're seeing personalized results.

    Cheers,

    Steve

as someone said, sometimes it's about personalization sometimes it depends on which country/state the person is searching from not all rankings are updated the same time at places, recently had 2 keywords rank in the top 10 in .us took a day before it ranked globally
