I have found a domain name I would like to target, the .com is taken with only 3 backlinks but I can choose between .co or .info. Any advice?

GKT reports that my keywords have an exact match of global 3,600 and monthly 2,400. Are these numbers worth going for?

Thanks for any help, this is my first time doing some research using GKT to find a decent niche to target.

For myself, I'd take .info ... but I'd be developing an "information site" on it, because that's my business model.

It depends what you want it for, I suppose.

".info" doesn't rank any worse than ".com" or any other top-level domain - there are a few people who'll tell you it does, and they're all mistaken: Google and Matt Cutts say that it doesn't - and they say it loudly and clearly and at every possible opportunity.

I asked all the people on my various lists, last year, what sort of top-level domain-name they prefer to see on a site, and was surprised how many of those who expressed a preference said that ".info" gave them the most confidence, because they regard my sites as a source of "information". Not too surprising, really, of course, but at the time I'd forgotten that customers think totally differently from marketers, and I had my silly "preferring .com hat" on.

A lot of potential customers dislike .com's, anyway, because they think it looks like someone "just trying to sell things" rather than providing information and recommendations.

But ... there are other reasons for preferring .com, of course - especially resale.

.co will be good if you want to rank highly on Google in Colombia, I'm sure.

I've certainly built sites on the basis of smaller numbers than those, and done well with them.

    Good luck!

after .com is .net and .org - why not use those instead .co and .info?. Both doesn't carry much authority than the .net and .org does and plus people are more familiar with N and O despite the rollover issue on Google.

The .net and .org are taken, both have random rubbish adverts all over them.

Go for a .co then. I won't say its better as this statement is highly debatable but it is more familiar to net surfers for obvious reasons.

Yes, they are worth going for. Approximately half of daily searches are completely unique and will never show up on any keyword tool. If you create content that is natural and in sync with your keywords and niche, you should be able to capture quite a few of these unique searches.

When you create your site, set up awstats on it. Check your stats after a few weeks. And you'll be able to see what keywords are bringing searchers to your site.

I would suggest going for the .co because its not a .info site. The search volume is worth going for if you are in it to win it. That said you want to reach top3 position on the first page because most of that traffic is going to only visit the front page. Hope this helps.
