Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and was wondering if some of you experts could help me. A few months ago i just started getting into the Internet Marketing business, and I think its great!

Anyways here is some questions I have. I just finished the blue stompernet guide and it definitely taught me alot! They talk about linking to other sites, and reciprocal linking. Do I build a directory page that has other peoples site linked to it? I was told that Google ranks each PAGE not each SITE, so wouldn't that rank for my directory page but not my index page?

Another question is this. My site sells a Clickbank product, so its only a sales page, is it recommended to have a directory? I was told that I should not have any other pages (other than the basic ones) so that we do not *distract* the potential customers.

Any help is appreciated!
Dennis

hi dennis, for link exchange you need a link page, you don't need a directory page and are you selling your own product or an affiliate offer at your site?

    Well for seo to work...
    1.) keyword research
2.) write proper title and meta tags
3.) make sure you include your chosen keywords in your web page copy
    three times or more.
4.) make sure you link with your internal pages and internal pages with your home page with chosen keywords
5.) clean site design. don't put too much graphics, flash or unnecessary inline javascript

6.) gather one way links from other site. one proven method article submission to article directories, you can also do directories submission,
squidoo, hubpages etc but I prefer articles these days

I don't recommend link exchange, yes you can but google already says excessive link exchange will harm your site ranking. And indeed link exchange
is an easy strategy to "spam" Google so that's why Google doesn't it like as it used to be.

    hopes that help

Hi, Page Rank & Site Rank are 2 different things.

•PageRank is only one of numerous methods Google uses to determine a page's relevance or importance.
•It is based on incoming links, but not just on the number of them - relevance and quality are important (in terms of the PageRank of sites, which link to a given site).
•Not all links weigh the same when it comes to PR.
•Usually, bad incoming links don't have impact on Page Rank.

One way of increasing both PR & Site ranking is Directory Submissions. It has worked for me, I suggest you try it out as well.

It's not the pure number of links that pushes you up in the search engines.

The links need to be from sites trusted by Google (especially). PR gives you an idea of which sites google trusts but PR itself will not guarantee placement on the first results page for your search terms.

Linking TO other sites? Well, Google likes to see links but, as far as I know, it is mainly the INCOMING links that make the difference.

Also consider that Google is moving to social networking as a way to rank sites. So, I would quickly grab a profile on a few major social networking sites (Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn). Google, I read, will be putting in the number of "friends" you have into their algorithms. There are other sites to consider: Merchant Circle, Yelp, Squidoo.

Yes, Google does rank each page within a site but until you get a significant amount of time established on the web neither your site nor the pages in it will get much PR, if any. Not only that, I suggest that you do not get all worked up over PR. For some experts, it is a dead issue already. I still see value there, but I would not bank on PR to get my site much Google juice.

Longtail key phrases seem to be the flavor of the month.

As always, take everything you read here and elsewhere on the web about SEO with a few grains of salt. None of us know the TRUTH for sure.
