Trying to start off small.. The keyword is in the health niche. the keyword is 6 words long. Someone already has a exact keyword domain thats on the first page, but it looks dated and i'm curious if i can beat it or not. It only gets around 1900 exact searches a month,

my plan: register a similar exact keyword domain, throw up some really unique content, backlinks, etc...

Here is what market samurai is telling me... As a newbie, can i go for this? I realize this is a newbie question, this will be my first micro niche site, so it's more of a learning experience rather than making money.

A 6 words key phrase + someone already registered the domain ? That must be a hot niche

    • Yep I would go for it. From the looks of your MS page they are not well on-page optimized. Don't worry about backlinks because you can just reverse engineer the sites and get the links as well.
      Works well for me.

Well heres some things I look at. Are the big 3 exact match domains taken? Keyword.com, keyword.net, keyword.org if so that means other people are on to the keyword which can mean stronger competition. Not definitely but possibly.

Now this page thats already ranking with the exact match domain did you check the backlinks? Are there a lot, are they from high PR domains. Just remember Market Samurai only tells you the actual backlinks URL PR but filter the backlinks URL to the domain and check PR. Ive run into this where I thought my competition was weak because Market Samurai said PR 0 for all backlinks only to find that they were all touching domains with PR 4, 5, 6 and that link juice flows like a river.

Saying the site is dated isn't really good for you. People like to believe constantly updated content is a big factor but its not at all unless you are doing news type sites. An old site may carry a lot of authority and domain age is in my opinion one of the most influential ranking factors.

All in all though if you are looking at the top 5 results and this other guys exact match domain is the only one fully optimized for your word then go for it! Theres plenty of room in that top 5 for 2 guys going after the same keyword.

the exact keyword domains are taken, but only one of them shows on google, it's the .net and it is PR 0, with a backlin count of 0 (its also #6 on the first page)

The #1 spot on google for the keyword has the exact keyword domain but has "now" at the end of it. so its exactkeywordnow.com -- Its page rank is 0 and its backlinks count is 4

Personally if any keyword is over 3 words I just dont use it, but thats just my well-educated and well-informed answer for a newbie.

Im not sure why you are asking if you should go for it? Do you want to go for it? Do you think it wil convert? Only you can guess and try.

Six words long should be about as easy as it gets.

You don't have to have an EMD name, especially with a long-tail keyword that is six words long. Pick the root keyword & get creative with a simple domain name.
