Naming Title tags...this way or that way?

Let's say I have a blog called "hot air ballooning fun"

I have the domain name" hotairballoonfun.com


My goal is to target and rank my homepage for the following two phrases:

1. hot air ballooning fun

2. hot air balloon fun


Should I setup my title tag like this:

hot air ballooning fun | hot air balloon fun


or like this:

hot air ballooning fun


I'm trying to rank for both terms, but I have the added boost of an emd for the second term. How would you setup that tags? Thanks.

    You should skip the word fun.

    And google will include balloon, balloons, and ballooning if
    the best sites have that instead. They probably assume
    that people looking for hot air balloons are looking for
    ballooning. Searchers would include for sale or buy if they
    were looking for ones to buy.

    When you make your title tag, less is better. You get the
    longer tail from your content.

      Paul is dead right here.
      Don't stress about it too much. You will see the same sites often ranking for similar terms in google. This is because a lot of SEO power comes from the off-site backlinks and anchor text. This is where the classic example comes from where if you type 'click here' into google, you will see adobe ranking number one.

      This is because people have backlinks pointing to their site with the anchor text 'click here' in it.

      So if you want to rank for a variety of keywords, make sure you build a variety of backlinks with the anchor text in them.

        Maybe I didnt use the best example. What if we called it:

        hotairballoonbasket.com

        and I was looking to target:

        1. hot air balloon basket

        2. hot air ballooning basket


        Are you saying that I should just use:

        hot air balloon basket

        For the tag? Or would I be better off with:

        hot air balloon basket | hot air ballooning basket


        The point I'm trying to make here is that the "basket" part of the phrase is actually important. So that being the case, which format should I use?

    Paul is correct - make sure though you do some KW analysis and see how much (or strong) your competition is.

    Put them both in the title. Check competition for the 2 key phrases and be sure to build anchor text backlinks using both key phrases.
